Krawk Kalamities by neowizard_26 | |
One regular afternoon, just arriving home from a hard day at school, I jetted
upstairs to my computer and logged onto NeoPets. Figuring I had missed out on
quite a bit since the last time I signed on, I headed straight to the News section.
What I found changed my whole perspective from that minute on, and still puzzles
me to this very day. Let me tell you what I mean.
"Krawk…" I had been familiar with that name long before it became the most
sought after NeoPet to roam the net. It used to be nothing more than a common
PetPet, easily obtainable for a heck of a LOT less than 1 million Neopoints,
as that is the price standing this very day. Ask anyone who visits the Trading
Post; I myself have witnessed all Krawks available through the Trading Post
for at least 1.5 mill, and as for the Shop Wizard? The least you can find them
for is 100K NP, and they aren't even up for sale; most are only shown as a gallery
item or merely as a way to anger the less fortunate of Neopia. These prized
wonders, nevertheless, are very scarce to our knowledge, although there appear
to be a healthy number in the Shop Wizard some of the time. If you take a look
at the Stats page (located in 'World' on the side menu) and scroll to the bottom,
you will see that the Krawk is the current holder of the Wooden Spoon Award.
Not that big a deal, right? Think again, my friend. If you take a peek at the
number below, you'll get what I'm saying. Only about 400 Krawks exist today
out of about nearly 42 million NeoPets!
The point I'm trying to make is that it's very unlikely that many of us Neopians
will come across one of these rare specimens. I'll give it to you straight out,
no holds barred: No matter how much we want a Krawk or how much desire we have
in obtaining one, the odds are extremely low. I am telling you this because
many residents of Neopia may be making a terrible mistake if they choose to
purchase this expensive trend-setter. Check out this scenario and maybe you
will think twice as well.
SCENARIO: You stare at the screen in both disbelief and satisfaction, a look
of glory spread from cheek to cheek. You finally saved up enough money to buy
a Krawk! You head over to the Trading Post and strike a deal with a fellow Neopian,
finally receiving the item you have sought since the very first day that these
scaly beings have become one of the hottest trends to hit NeoPets. Giving your
brand new Krawk to a favourite pet of yours, you head over to Krawk Island and
begin the transformation from PetPet to NeoPet. You smile in utter joy, overlooking
your now complete team of pets, ready to face the world in confidence. "Wow,"
you think, "I can't believe it! I'm so lucky to have this, seeing as there are
only about 400 in the entire
population…. Well, I better head over to the bank." You take a stroll
over to a neatly suited Skeith as he frowns at you, shaking his head. No more
money in my account? You decide to check your deposit box, wondering if you
have any items to sell for quick cash. To your dismay, there are none of those
either. You're… completely broke? Looks like it's time to hit the Games Room.
Now, I'm not saying that's exactly how your Neopian lifestyle would be if
you bought a Krawk, but think about it for a second: 1.5 million Neopoints is
a lot of money to many people, and to have 1.5 million Neopoints would be absolute
bliss for anyone who had it themselves. But to blow all that money on a single
PetPet? In the eyes of a not-so-savvy spender, even that would be a rash decision.
Why buy one PetPet with all that money just to turn it into a Pet of your own
when you could buy SO many more useful items for the pets you already have?
Just because the trend seems cool doesn't mean you have to join right in with
it! You should be happy with the pets you already have and shouldn't change
or disown them just to have one that's more popular and trendy. They should
be trendy to you in their very own way, shouldn't they?
Consider an alternative to spending your hard-earned money. There are many
things you can do, including: 1) Buying food items, toys, and many other things
to pamper your pets. They deserve it! 2) Donating some of your cash to a needy
source, such as the Money Tree, or 3) Saving all or most of it for the future.
I hope I have helped you look to both sides of the Krawk issue in this article,
and wish you the best of luck with what you may want to do with your state of
wealth. Whichever road you take, I hope you make a wise decision in doing whatever
you choose to do. |
