In silence Yukikema was sleeping in her bamboo bed, undressed for work. She
wore a shirt which was faded out, and bunny slippers which she got for Christmas.
Her clock rang and Yukikema sat up in her bed as the clock yelled "Wake up for
work!" Yukikema pressed the button on the right side of the clock and jumped
out of bed. It was Tuesday, the day after Yukikema got her wings. She got her
wings from a potion her mother, Kikarmia, bought while at an auction. Yukikema
yawned and walked into the kitchen.
Kikarmia sat at the table, scouring the newspaper. A coffee mug was on the
table. "Good morning my dear Yuki," said Kikarmia. "You are very wise to sleep
on your work day." She snickered and sipped from the edge of her mug.
The sun was bright and Marbotoke, Yukikema's Doglefox, crawled to Yukikema's
feet. "Good girl, I will feed you in a minute, Marbo," said Yukikema.
Marbotoke smiled and ran to his water bowl. Yukikema grabbed a handful of
nuts and put them in the food bowl. Marbotoke nibbled at the nuts, sniffing
them each second.
"Did Tekoto come yet?" asked Yukikema. "He said he'd come before work."
"No, not yet," said Kikarmia. "I bet he's quite busy."
Yukikema got a bowl from the cupboard and poured some NeoFlakes cereal into
it. She took the bowl to the table and sat down. "Can Moheite come over after
work?" asked Yukikema. "We've got some important files which are unfinished.
The Smith file is not cleared yet. Anyway, Mr. Tequil isn't expecting the results
until Thursday." Yukikema put some cereal into her mouth and chewed it. "I think
Tekoto is helping, so can we use the basement?"
"Why the basement?" asked Kikarmia. "You never liked it in there."
"It's perfect to study in!" replied Yukikema. "I think I'm late for work though.
See you, mami!" She grabbed her purse and a folder, then ran out the door.
The sun was extremely bright and clouds spread in the sky like cotton. As
the clouds moved Yukikema was running extremely fast, passing Chias who carried
Chia Plushies and keyrings. Yukikema got to her office building, a tall tower
with one hundred offices. She ran in the door and got to the elevator just before
it left.
Moheite was inside the elevator with her briefcase. "Hello Yuki!" Yukikema
turned and saw Moheite. "Oh hi!" Yukikema exclaimed. "Do you want to finish
the Smith case at my house after work?" Moheite agreed as they walked out of
the elevator, onto the fifth floor. Moheite worked next-door to Yukikema and
they always talked on the phone when they came across an idea. Yukikema opened
the door to her office and put her papers on her desk, then sat in her chair
which made a funny noise when one sat in it.
"Ah... I just love my office!" said Yukikema, grinning. "Of course I can't
relax all day... I must continue the Smith case, of course!" She decided to
work from that point on. She studied books of law and read the files over and
over again... Angelica Smith was murdered and the parents were kidnapped...
who could have done it? That question was to be answered once the list of Neopian
Murderers was printed.
The phone rang minutes after.
"Yuki of Neopian Cases and Files speaking!" said Yukikema.
"This is Tekoto, Yuki," said the caller.
"Oh! Hello Teko! What's up, man?"
"I'm sorry I couldn't see you this morning."
"That's fine, I didn't mind..."
"Do you want to have lunch?"
"Sure!"
"Meet me at the bottom level at 12:00 PM NST."
"Yeah, okay!"
Yukikema hung up and smiled. "We're going out for lunch! Yay!" She stood up
and did the macarena several times, then she said, "But I must get to work!"
She sat back down and read the file another time, then it was 12:00 PM NST faster
than you can say "Sneezles and Sneezes." Yukikema ran down the stairs with her
purse and was at the bottom level of the building. A man in a black suit with
a bandana around his mouth smiled as Yukikema looked at him.
"Uoy era Ikuy," said the man.
"I beg your pardon?" said Yuki.
"I ma a Odnurg," said the man once again, and then he took off his bandana.
His skin was green and he had Grundo ears, so he must have been a Grundo talking
in his language. (You might be able to read it backwards and understand what
he said.) He grabbed Yukikema's purse and then said, "Htols lliw evol siht!"
and ran out the door.
"Give me that, you thief!" yelled Yukikema, running out the door.
