Origin of Scorchios

by fizban2207

The Scorchio is one of the most popular NeoPets. I wonder, however, if many of the owners actually know where their Scorchio comes from. This article will hopefully give owners, especially Scorchio owners an insight and understanding of where these NeoPets come from with the help of my own Scorchio Pyrus2207.

Around ten million years ago when Neopia was in a very primitive state, all the pets lived in an aquatic environment. At this time Scorchios were long and very much like a snake. However they had four small paddle like appendages, two on either side of their body. Soon after this, however, food became scarce as the true aquatic NeoPets such as Jetsams and Flotsams evolved and many NeoPets were forced onto the land. At first the Scorchios struggled but after a time their paddles evolved into small legs signifying their true transition to land.

At this point in time Scorchios were fairly widespread, but due to their lizard-like appearance were unable to survive in some areas and there was a mass migration. The result was that the Scorchios ended up in areas where the vegetation and landscape was fairly low and flat. This meant the Scorchios now occupied the areas that are now known as the Lost Desert and Tyrannian plateau.

Soon though a significant evolution was to take place, the Scorchios rose onto their hind-legs. This was possible as after a long period on land their legs had grown longer and stronger. Also the body past the hind legs had slowly grown thinner and now formed the tail. This new form was able to find higher food sources previously unreachable and expanded the population. Also the Scorchios found the lost desert and plateau were becoming crowded. So with their new bipedal movement the migrated to the volcanic region of Tyrannia.

This led to their final evolution. The Scorchios discovered that with the constant eruptions the lava flows were trapping communities for long periods of time. It was during this time that a community of Scorchios evolved, with their stubby wings becoming larger and capable of flight. These then merged with the population and led to the whole Scorchio population developing wings.

With the Scorchio population in it's final form there were no more changes until they learnt to use magic during the period it was discovered in Neopia. This led to their brains becoming more complex and larger. The Scorchios were now capable of complex thinking, speech and reasoning.

Soon after this humans came to Neopia and discovered these NeoPets which were much like mythical dragons from earth, they soon became a popular pet. I hope this article has improved your knowledge of Neopia and its evolution. Also I hope you know now and appreciate the evolution of Scorchios to the pet we know and love.

I would like to extend my thanks to the National Neopian Museum, Royal Sakhmet Museum, Neopian Archaeology Association, National Neopian Paleontology Association and of course Pyrus2207 for their assistance in researching this article.
