Making it Through the Holidays

by rumorhasit

Ah, the month of Celebrating. Probably my favourite Neopian month. The whole NeoPets community comes together, and partakes in the celebration. Neopians are very generous at this time of year. They are busy shopping for the holiday season. Some begin to worry about how they will be able to afford gifts for Neofriends and pets, and survive the celebrations. If you arenít careful, it could leave a big dent in your bank account. However, if you are wise, you could end up with enough to buy great gifts for everyone on your list, plus make a big profit later on.

Tip #1- GET PLANNING, GET SHOPPING
Begin your shopping early! Make a list of everyone you want to buy for, and then decide on what exactly you want to get them. Try and choose something useful to them; it doesnít have to be too expensive, but nobody really wants to receive prunes from Tombola for a gift. I would recommend making a budget. Decide how much in total you can spend, then try and buy nice gifts in an appropriate price range. Donít spend more then you can make. Begin to buy the items early, just in case prices go up. The one exception to this would be if you plan on giving items that may be given out by the advent calendar. Last year it was things like Snowballs, Slushies, Codestones, Neggs, Healthshrooms, ice cream, etc. These items may go down in price as the month proceeds if they are given out by the advent calendar.

Tip #2- THE ADVENT CALENDAR; YOUR BEST FRIEND
Go to the Advent Calendar everyday (Donít abuse it with multiple accounts, youíll just end up frozen). Even if the prizes arenít very high in value, just wait. The prices are lower now because the items are common. Everyone got one, so nobody wants one. If you get something you donít need or want tuck it away in a corner of your deposit box and just wait. The prices will go up later on, and youíll be able to sell them for more.

Tip #3-ANTICIPATE NEEDS & STOCKPILE
Try and figure out which items will become less common later on, or be in great demand. These are often items that disappear after one use. Go out and buy oodles of those items made common by the Advent Calendar. Theyíre cheap now, but later on in the year you can sell them for more. For example, last year Strawberry Ice Cream was given out. You could buy it for 5 NP. Now it has gone up to 150 NP. That is 145 NP gain. If you had bought 1,000 of them, which would only cost 5,000 NP, you could sell them now and make 145,000 NP in profit. If you get lucky, you may end up with something like Chocolate Ice Cream. It was 5 NP last year, and is now worth about 3,500 NP each. If you had saved 1000 of them, you would have 3,500,000 NP.

REMEMBER
The key to getting more later is waiting. Remember that, and donít sell too soon! Make informed choices now, research prices and predict trends. It sounds harder then it actually is. I recently sold off all of my Christmas paint brushes, candy canes, crackers and other items from last Christmas I easily made 60,000 NP, even though I hadnít stockpiled any items. Now if only I had saved more of those Chocolate Ice Creams...
