Newbies. Thousands of them sign up everyday to join the rest of us in this
fabulous world that we have come to know and love very dearly. They are here,
just like the rest of us, to have fun and enjoy all that NeoPets has to offer:
fun, friends, a chance to have a pet (even if it's not "real").
And how do we treat these Newbies?? Not nearly as well as we should, in my
opinion. I have been playing on NeoPets for about 2 months, and the Newbie board
has become my favourite place to chat. But I have been shocked at the way Newbies
are treated. People are rude to them when they ask for help, tell them the wrong
information, and worst of all, try to scam them out of their small amounts of
NP and items.
You might be saying to yourself, "Well, why should I care? I learned how to
live in NeoPets, they can too!" There is some learning that Newbies must do
on their own, but assisting Newbies can have great benefits for you, as well.
1) New Friends - Do you worry that your Neofriend list is sadly
short?? Well, here's the perfect opportunity. Direct a Newbie to use the Shop
Wizard, tell them how to increase the level of their pet, and you are sure to
make a new Neofriend.
2) Profit - Newbies are always looking for cheap food to feed
to their pets. You can use this opportunity in two ways - help them find the
food they need, and still make a profit for yourself. The way I do it is, buy
food from the Main Shop, which can be found for under 10 NP. Then sell it in
your shop for around 10-15 NP. This may seem as if you are simply trying to
earn a profit, but it's not just about that. Many people sell food for as high
as 20 or 30 NP - the Newbies will jump at the chance to buy food for as little
as you are offering. So you both go home happy.
3) Back-up - Believe it or not, Newbies are very quick to jump
at any chance to help or defend someone they know has helped them, when that
person is in trouble. If someone is saying bad things about you, or you need
to find that item for a quest, but can't use the Shop Wizard, they will be there,
waiting eagerly to help you out.
4) Good Deed of the Day - Ever wanted the chance to help someone
everyday? Well, here's your chance. Just direct one lost little Newbie to Coltzan's
Shrine, and you have your "feel-good" moment of the day, and can sleep well
at night.
5) Boredom Reliever - If you have a few million NP, are the proud
owner of 4 strong, intelligent, painted pets and are wondering what's left,
Newbies present a new opportunity. This gives you the chance to share your love
for this world with someone else, and then watch as they go through everything
that you have - from finding the very paint brush that you have been wanting
for so long in a "Random Event", to realising that you have just bought an item
for far more than it is worth.
