The Wishing Well: Friend to NeoPets or Greedy and Money Hungry?

by christina_119

With on last breath and a final prayer Lepecon the spotted Kougra dropped his last Neopoints into the dark empty Well and ran off into the night back to his NeoHome. Months went by and Lepecon never heard anything from the Well. Soon it was time to face to facts... His wish had not been granted, he would not be getting any medication for his dear sick sibling.

How many people have ever thrown Neopoints into the Wishing Well and never gotten anything back? I know I tried several times to get a Fire Faerie but to no avail. I am sure that there are numerous people that have received items, and their names are posted on the Well walls. But it makes you think... what does the Well do with the money, and why do only a select four get their wishes granted out of millions of needy Neopians? This is what my trusty NeoPet, Kwasi the white Aisha, and I intend to find out on our interview with the legendary Wishing Well.

It was a warm afternoon when we left our home on Faerieland to visit the busy Neopian Central. We stopped by the bank to pick up some Neopoint to make a donation, and maybe a quick wish, then it was off to the Wishing Well. When we arrived, hundreds of desperate NeoPets and their owners were in front of us. We waited patiently in line until it was our turn. Several hours later we were next to go. I stepped up and took a deep breath, I knew we would get some answers.

Me: Excuse me, Wishing Well, would you mind if we interviewed you?

(While expecting a reply from the bottom of the well, I was shocked when the trees rustled nearby and a stout little man invited me over.)

Little Man: Over here miss, I run the well. It’s me you wish to talk to....

Me: Um, okay... I thought that the well was, well magic? Do other Neopians know you run this well?

Little Man: No, and I don’t run this well alone. Several Neopians such as myself care of the well and grant wishes with the Neopoint that Neopians throw down to us.

Me: Well, why do only a select few get their wishes granted?

Little Man: When people wish for something, they usually wish for something that they cannot afford, so we gather all the Neopoint up and buy gifts for the four random people.

Me: What do you do to the left over Neopoint?

Little Man: We donate it to the Money Tree, of course.

Me: So you don’t keep the Neopoints for yourself?

Little Man: Why we have no use for Neopoints! We get free food from the land and the Soup Faerie, and even if we needed money we have guilds that support us.

Me: Well, thank you for your time. You have cleared up a lot of questions about how the Wishing Well is run and how wishes are granted.

Little Man: No problem, but remember that if you want something really bad, donate a lot and wish often, it is bound to come true sooner or later.

With a wave good-bye, I dropped my Neopoints into the large black hole and made the same wish I had made months before. "I wish for a Fire Faerie" and walked off down the road to the Money Tree to donate the rest. I guess the Wishing Well does what it does for a good cause, making Neopian a better place for us all.

After a long day downtown I was glad to get home a see my NeoPets. I opened the door and there sitting on the table by the door was my glowing Fire Faerie....
