Neopia's Best-Kept "Secrets"

by greenangelofmercy

Okay, so you've been around NeoPets for long enough to realise that earning Neopoints isn't as easy at it looks. Well, there are a few tips I have for you that I've discovered in the fifteen months I've been playing. They may seem overly simple, but trust me, this can work for anyone.

1) NST
That clock in the upper right hand corner of the front page isn't just for show. That's Neopian Standard Time, and it's important. With that, you can figure out exactly when restocks are, when the Snowager sleeps, and other things that depend on time... not to mention you'll know the exact instant when NeoQuest starts again. ^_~ You can click the banner on the top of the page to get there any time (yeah, that's actually a link up there) and click the "back" button to get back to where you were.

2) The Kiosk
Looking to make a bit of quick NP? Every 40 minutes, you can buy a scratchcard from the Kiosk in the Ice Caves. Now, you can scratch it if you want, and congrats if you win something. However, check what you got first. In the shop wizard, scratchcards are worth from 600-70,000 NP! If you don't trust your luck scratching the cards like me, you always make money in the wiz. Even if you only get Race to Riches cards every time, you can earn up to 3300 NP every day.

3) Garage Sale
You mean there's more to the Winter World? Yes, there is! Keep climbing the mountain, my friend. In a small igloo there is one of the best places in Neopia--the Garage Sale. It follows the restock times like any other shop, but it has some of the best bargains in Neopia. I've pulled Codestones out of there for 500 NP, and I've seen faeries as well. Now, not everything is a good deal (they sell PetPets and island merchandise for way more than they're worth in the wiz) and there's no bargaining. Once you buy, you buy. But this is one of my favourite shops.

4) Advent Calendar
It's not open yet, but those who were around last year remember this with... fondness? loathing? Well...yes. Open during December only, this building in Snowy Valley gives you an item and NP every day. Assuming it'll work the same way this year as last year, the only problem with it is that everyone gets the same item (sometimes it's food), so you'll be lucky to make NP from the item. (The Christmas paint brush went from 30,000 to 500 overnight last year, and Abominable Snowballs did the same thing.) But hey, free NP.

5) Switch-A-Roo
Whether you've been around for a year or you're new to NeoPets, this is guaranteed NP... and you make more every day you play. Play a couple test games (i.e. don't bet all your NP) first to see how fast you can go and still keep track of the marble. I can't keep track of it on the fastest speed (I've got a fast computer), but I'm still winning 150% of my bet.

6) Shop Wizard
Now, this is hardly a secret, but not everyone takes advantage of it. And that's to your advantage. I've gotten expensive paint brushes for 250 NP and Dubloons/Codestones for 1 NP. All you need is patience, a good knowledge of how much things are worth...and some common sense. A deal that's too good to be true may very well be a shop scam. If you get directed to a "You are not logged in" screen, check the URL... and NEVER NEVER NEVER give your password to a site that is not NeoPets. Trust me, you will regret it if you do.

7) The Stock Market
Many people don't use the stock market because it's too unpredictable. However, there is a way to never lose money. Bargain stocks. Check the prices sometime...they very, very rarely go below 6 NP. So... buy them at 6 NP, sell them at 8 or higher. As long as you do this with more than 10 shares at a time, you will always make NP. (Nigel takes 20 NP for selling, so you should make at least that much per type of stock.) I buy stocks 1000 at a time, making at least 2000 NP for each type I buy. If you can't afford that much, try buying 40 or so at a time. You'll spend 240 NP and get back 320+ (300+, after Nigel takes his cut). This game takes patience, but is very worth it.

8) Chats
Again, this is hardly a secret, but it's the best way to get help in Neopia. Got a problem? Make a post. No answer? Post again. You'll get help eventually. As a general rule, Neopians are more than happy to help each other out. Just don't go asking people to donate a Hidden Tower item to you or something.

Of course, there's other ways to earn/save NP... Tombola, the main shops, the Snowager (assuming he doesn't blast you...), the Treasure Hunt, the omelette, the Healing Springs, games, etc. But these are some of the less-known ways to earn NP and have some fun at the same time.

"Hey, don't forget us!"

"Yeah, you promised to play Cheat! with us when you were done!"

Oh, yeah. Don't forget about your pets! They're the reason you're here, after all. And I have to go, I did promise Solace_in_Darkness and Mirai_Gotenks that I'd play with them.

Don't hesitate to Neomail me if you need help. Greenangelofmercy, over and out. ^_^ v
