Awwwwww, old times. I figured since it was the two-year anniversary
I would write an article about the things that were here, and how NeoPets as
much improved.
I started playing on November 18th 1999 on my account lia with a blue Jubjub
called Tinker. Soon after I created this account, love. So I have truly been
around and active for a while.
First things were the pets. There were not very many pets to choose from. I
clearly remember the Kacheek, the Nimmo, and the Jubjub were the pets that were
actually animals. But they also had human pets as well. Ones like Macy_gray,
Lenny, and Bruce (Bruce was a human that got retired then brought back as a
penguin type animal when Winter World was released). I also remember that they
had the users come up with pets and their names as contests.
I remember the Faerie Quests were when you choose to do them instead of random
as they are now. There was a JavaScript chartroom in every Main Shop. They tried
to make another JavaScript game based on the worlds from Neopian Central to
The Ultimate Plains of the Gods down to the Darkness Realm but they had a lot
of difficulties with that so it eventually got taken down.
Then there where the games. There were not many games and the page looked a
lot different then it does now. I remember The Ice Cream Factory game was up
for a very long time and they took it down because people complain of their
computers freezing. I remember the Alien Game was a favourite of a lot of people,
especially parents. Scorchy Slots was a favourite of mine as well. Kiko Match
was exactly the way it is now with the scoring. They changed after about a year
and brought it back again. Theme Parks were really big back then and everybody
flocked to them when they first came out.
The Battledome. I kept track of how long they said they were working on it
and it was over a year before they actually got any alpha or beta testers on
it. But many people were very happy with the results when it did finally come
out, including me.
One of the big things that I remember was the items. Books that are rare and
worth a lot of points were useless things read to pets out of boredom when I
first got here. Motes were very cheap and given to NeoFriends on a regular basis.
Codestones were dirt-cheap before the training school came out and usually discarded.
Faeries were at the max. 500 NP. But then there was the inflation period. It
was horrible. A bitten apple cost you an arm and leg and then some. There was
no Soup Kitchen so what little money people earned from games they had to save
so they could feed their pets. That was a time when people were wishing for
a quest from the Earth Faerie.
Newbies back then had no starter pack to get them going. They had to play games,
sign up with sponsors or start a shop for a way to earn points. They also had
no shrine. If you wanted a pet's level raised you had to read and play with
it constantly or wait for a random event that said it was raised.
So I say that NeoPets has much improved since the day it started back two
years ago and will keep on improving. Happy Two Year Anniversary NeoPets! |
