The Money Tree - Sometimes it Really IS Better to Give

by kelandra

We all know of the Money Tree located in the middle of Neopia Central. I’ve been playing on Neopets for about a year and a half now, and I remember my first few weeks here I always tried visiting the Money Tree, hoping for some quick NP or items. I’m sure nearly everyone of us at one time or another, went to the Money Tree hoping against hope that we’d be lucky enough to be the first person to click on one of those 1000 NP donations. But after the first 10 or so times of trying to grab one of those big bags of NP but always turning up empty handed, you decide that the Money Tree is a waste of time and never go back there! Well I’m here to tell you, that the Money Tree isn’t as useless as it seems.

It’s true that it is extremely difficult to receive donations from the Money Tree, mainly because there are millions of poor new Neopians all huddled around the tree, just waiting with watering mouths to snatch the donations as soon as they’re given. And due to the fact that the speed of your Internet connection effects whether you’re able to get an item quickly enough or not, the majority of us Neopians are unfortunately faced with that disappointing screen… “The ghosts have stolen all the donations!! Try again soon…” But I have found through my travels in Neopia, that the Money Tree works in mysterious ways…

Like every faithful Neopian should do, I visit the Tombola everyday, and as time passed I found myself collecting a ridiculous amount of sand bottles, prune juice, musho mushy peas, and sail boats. At first I tried selling these in my shop, but I soon realised that no one was going to buy something from me, when they can get it for free! So just to save myself time, and to clear up space in my shop for other more sellable items, I began to donate my Tombola booby prizes to the Money Tree.

I really didn’t think much of it, until I realised that by the end of the day, I’d found 4 Codestones! As the days passed I noticed that I was finding more and more items than I’d ever found before in random events. An Easter Negg here, a faerie there… but enough to make me realise the difference. Of course, it wasn’t everyday that I found 4 Codestones in a row, but it was happening a lot more often than ever before. Even if I only found 1 or 2 Codestones in a week, that still added up to a lot more NP than what I would have gotten from selling my Tombola prizes for the usual 10-20 NP.

I have theorized that perhaps this is what the Money Tree is really there for, and why he has such a prestigious location in Neopia Central. Perhaps he isn’t there just so that you can stand around him all day gobbling up donations, perhaps the real reason the Money Tree is there, is to reward people in Neopia who are generous and donate their items freely. I like to think of him as Neopia’s version of Santa Claus, he brings good things to good little Neopian boys and girls who donate their items to help other poor Neopians.

So instead of waiting around the Money Tree going “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” Try donating something instead, you never know what he might pay you back with.
