The Neoboards - Ever wonder what in the world is the difference between a n00b
and a newbie? What 'rawk my sawks' is supposed to mean? What are all those faces
with the ^'s and the o's? How to be 'cool'? Good topics? Nice sigs? Well, here's
a little guide to sum it all up in that mind of yours.
Let's start with the basics. You want to be accepted into the neoboards, right?
Well, you don't want to make such a title like, "Hi, i am new" in the roleplaying
boards. If you are new, post it in the 'Newbies' board, and if you want to roleplay,
in the Roleplay board, and such. But there is one thing. For some odd reason,
it is best to do pet roleplays in the Fan Clubs. Don't ask me why, I guess the
Roleplay boards don't like them.
Next, board titles. Let's pretend you're new. Click on 'boards', go to 'create
new topic' blah blah blah.
This is IMPORTANT.
Never, ever, EVER make your board title non-appealing. This means you must
always use correct grammar.
Bad Example: hi i am nu!111
Good Example: Hello everyone, I am new to Neopets.
And next, my basic dictionary of things you need to know and such.
QUICK GUIDE-
-Never overuse smilies, especially the moving ones. Non-appealing.
-Here's one of of the biggest confusions on all the boards. n00bs and newbies.
Well, to make this short, a n00b is... lets just say someone who breaks many
rules and uses blinding fonts and spams/scams.
A newbie is just a person new to Neopets.
-So, many people want to be 'cool'. Some classify this in different ways.
Some be themselves (I say the best thing...), some think glowy fonts are 'out',
and people with huge fonts are...odd.
Just be who you are. It doesn't matter unless you're a n00b.
DICTIONARY-
Let's start with smilies.
o_o - Well, as most smilies, you look at them sideways. This one you don't.
This one is just upright and facing you. It gives off an odd look.
; - Sweatdrop. Often added to o_o; and such.
o_0 - Basically like the others.
oO; - Okay, you get the drill with the circular letters and numbers.
^^ - Also upright. It signifies a slight look of cuteness. Can also be seen
as ^-^, ^_^.
-_- - A look of of being annoyed. Also seen as --;
u_u - Usually posted with such things as 'I agree' or 'I doubt it'.
e_e - Another look of being annoyed.
._. - A plain look.
;D - This begins our sideways smilies. It is a look of happiness.
xD, XD, x} - A look of laughter.
>D - Another look of laughter.
(: - This smilie is for those who don't like the regular smilie. It's the same
thing tilted to the other side.
): - The 'other' version of the sad smiley.
D: - A sadder smilie
-action- or *action* - You use these if you're doing an action, but usually
you aren't doing it in real life though, although you could.
Real Life Example: -dances around- *dances around*.
Fictional Example: -curls atop your head- *curls atop your head*
*Tip: Don't overuse these smilies either. It ruins the post.*
Reg - Aka, regular. Someone considered a nice person who is non-n00bish and
is very active and has been on the same chatboard for many months.
n00b - Someone who loves to annoy/spam/etc.
Newbie - A new person.
Squee, fwee, meep, and such - They are just words to add to make the post sound
more 'cute'.
__er - Well, you know how you see 'Fc'er' or 'Rp'er'? Well, basicly you just
take the initials of the chat board and add ER to it. That simple. Like Ems'er,
Fc'er, get my drill.
Rawk, sawk, etc. - Well, they're just common phrases people use, one of the
most common being 'rawk my sawk' and such.
Siggy, Sig - Your signature.
Avatar - The icon you carry on the boards.
Chatspeak - Ppl ho shrtn wrds lk ths, OR Ppl who shorten wurds lyk thiz!
Well, that's all the dictionary I've thought up so far.
And next, fonts and sigs
I won't tell you everything, but I'll tell you my suggestions/tips.
1- You don't want a boring black font. Be colorful and creative!
2- Never have bright colors. They burn people's eyes and are hard to see.
3- Glowy fonts may also hurt eyes, but sometimes are okay.
4- This also applies to bright colors, but don't make your font color white.
We don't want to spend time highlighting the whole thing when we could be typing
up a 500 word essay.
5- Don't use chatspeak in your sig, or font part thing.
6- In your sig, make it go along with the neoHTML thing.
7- It's always best to make the font match the avatar. ((For example, on the
Fire Kougra avatar, use red and orange for color.))
8- Don't make the size too large, because it takes up board space.
9- Making your font size small is better for those who are literate Rp'ers,
and they look good.
Just this and one more. Now it's the juicy bits of a post, and the topic.
Also, I won't say everything, but have tips.
1- It's best to plan it out. What topic will you pick? What things will be
inside?
2- Match the post to the board. Don't put a Lupe Roleplay in the Guild Board.
3- Make the title interesting. Instead of, 'Giveaway.' make the board say,
'Giveaway! Come on in! ^^;' It's more welcoming and nice.
4- Don't make it short, but don't make it long.
Finally, the moment you've been waiting for... what it comes out to be!
Board- Fan Clubs.
Topic- Giveaway! Please come! XD
Description- Fwee! Welcome to de humble board of...thee. Yus. Theeeeeeeee.
x} Now, post and if you win you get a random gift. Random. Raaaaaaaaaaandom.
Mwahaha. -bounces around- Now post. XD
So... that be all. Tata! ^^;
