It was a bright and sunny morning as Blade the Rainbow Shoyru slowly rose from his Mootix bed. Blade stretched out his wings and let out a big yawn. When he finally felt awake enough he began his morning aerobics. Blade exercised every morning so he would be fit for his Battledome fights. Blade had a dream, it was common I suppose, but he wanted it more than anything in the world: he wanted to be the best battler in Neopia. To accomplish this goal he knew he had to train and work very hard every day to stay in shape. Of course, he wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything without the help of his owner, Juniper. “Blade, hon, are you up?” called Juniper from downstairs. “Yes, Juni, I’m just finishing my aerobics. I’ll be down in a minute!” “All right, just remember to get your sister out of her crib before you come down!” Blade smiled. He loved his little sister; she was just so cute and happy all the time! Blade finished his workout and quietly went into his sister’s room. Blade slowly picked her up and put her on the floor. Blade looked down at her as she yawned, “Good morning, Emeraldia,” he said softly. “Hewo,” she replied. Blade began to fly down the stairs as his sister crawled behind him. Since she was a Peophin, she has a little trouble crawling around the house. Blade landed in his seat at the table in his kitchen and began inhaling the heart-shaped bon bons Juniper prepared for the family. “Blade, you know I don’t like it when you fly in the house, don’t help your sister down the stairs, say hello to your other siblings at the table, and gobble all the food without a thank you,” said Juniper sternly, “basically that means, your not showing any…” “…common courtesy,” finished Blade with his head drooped. Juniper bent down and lifted up his head. “Blade, I know you’re excited about today, but you have to calm down,” said Juniper lovingly. Blade gave her a hug and began to eat slower. “What’s going on today?” asked Blade’s brother, Verde the green Ixi. “Oh, Blade’s going out to the Battle Magic shop to buy a Crystal Boomerang!” said Juniper excitedly as Emeraldia finally made it to the table. “Yeah, the Battledome competition is in a couple of days, I’m sure to win with that weapon,” said Blade as he put his plate in the stone sink. “Are you sure you have enough neopoints for that?” asked Juluc the Christmas Wocky, Blade’s other sister. “Well, I’ve been working real hard down at the Neolodge, and I think from what I’ve saved, we have enough,” she said smiling at Blade as she began washing the dishes. Blade smiled back, he was always so proud of his owner, she worked so hard to buy all of them so many things like paintbrushes, beds, and special items. She really was a great owner. Finally, Juniper and Blade headed out of the neohome and toward the Battle Magic shop. When they go there, Blade was so excited he ran through the doors and right up to the large Grarrl at the counter. “One Crystal Boomerang, please!” said Blade confidently. When Blade got no response, he turned around only to see the entire store was empty! “What happened?” asked Blade nervously. “The store was robbed while I was gone, there’s nothing left,” said the Grarrl sadly. Blade plopped down in the middle of the store and stared blankly at his owner. Juniper rushed over to her neopet and lifted him up to his feet. “Have you called the Defenders of Neopia yet?” said Juniper. “Yeah, they’re on their way,” said the Grarrl. Blade was still stunned, but was beginning to come to. “I think I know who did it, Juni,” said Blade quietly. Juniper looked at him strangely. “Who?” “There were these neopets at school, some gang, and I heard them talking about “hitting” the Battle Magic shop for supplies,” said Blade touching one of the empty shelves. “Good,” said Juniper “Good?” said the Grarrl lifting up his eyes, “what did I miss?” “No, well, I don’t mean “good”, but this means Blade can tell the Defenders who the possible culprit is,” said Juniper. “Forget the Defenders, I’m going after them” said Blade angrily. Blade began to fly toward the door, but Juniper ran in front of him. “Oh no, you are not going to go after a gang by yourself, you wait until someone comes” said Juniper firmly. Blade and Juniper stared at each other for a long time, but Blade finally gave in and stayed at the shop. After a long interrogation, Blade and Juniper finally made it to their neohome. When they walked in Juluc and Verde crowded around them with questions which neither of the two tired travelers felt like answering. “Where were you guys?” “What happened?” “Why were you gone so long?” “Are you all right?” “Where’s the boomerang?” Blade and Juniper sort of waived the questions and went to bed, well, first they checked on baby Emeraldia who was of course, asleep in her yellow crib. While everyone was sleeping, Blade quietly grabbed his Sword of Domar, Dual Battle Mirror, and his Stone Arm Shield and flew through his window down to the ground. Blade knew that the gang that stole the items usually hangs out Wishing Well at night, so he flew as fast as he could to that area. When he got there he saw them, the toughest, meanest, and craziest band of neopets anyone has ever seen. First, there was a Mutated Kacheek named Jets. Next there was a Hallowen Krawk named Barry who loved to tease the weak neopets. Next, there was a Fire Meerca called Flames who everyone knew was extremely fast, probably the one who got away with the most items. Finally, the leader was a Darigan Shoyru named Bullseye. He was ugly, he was mean, and he was just evil. As Blade approached the Wishing Well with weapons in hand, he began to think this whole “revenge” thing wasn’t such a good idea, but before the Shoyru could change his mind, the Krawk saw Blade moving around in the woods behind them. Before Blade could make a run for it, the Krawk jumped on his back, causing Blade to drop all of his weapons. “Well, “said Bullseye, the sound of his raspy voice making Blade flinch, “looks like we gots ourselves a spy.” Blade tried to wriggle away, but it only made the Krawk push down harder. “I say wes get rid of ‘im, boss” said Flames smiling wickedly. Flames bent way down toward the defenseless Shoyru, when suddenly Judge Hog came running through the bushes. “Unhand that Shoyru and put your hands up!” he yelled triumphantly, his voice sounding throughout the forest. ******************************************
Soon after the group of rebel neopets was taken into custody, Blade, Juni, and the other Defenders began to bring back the stolen goods to the Battle Magic Shop. As Blade and Juni place the last items on one of the shelves, Blade turned to Juni and said, “How did you know where I was?” Juniper smiled, “Well, your little sister saw you leave out the window and came running to me for help. I called the Defenders of Neopia and they came to the rescue.” “Wow,” said Blade musingly, “I guess she’s not such a baby anymore.” “I’m just glad your okay, and never do that again” said Juniper hugging her Shoyru. As this tender moment was in progress, the jolly Grarrl came over to them and cleared his throat as if he had something to say. “Mm-hmm, you both did a fine job rescuing my items. I think for all your trouble, I have a little reward for you Blade,” the Grarrl said reaching over the counter. In his hands was the beautiful, shining Crystal Boomerang. “It’s yours, take it,” he said with a smile. Blade slowly reached out and touched its shimmering surface. As Blade held the item close to his chest he said, “Now, I’m ready for the contest.”
