Island vs. Island: A Vacationer's Guide

by tigerlizard5

OCEANS OF NEOPIA - "You'll take me on a vacation, won't you?" You can't help but admit your Neopet has thrust this question at you before; their huge, appeasing eyes glistening irresistibly as they urge you to comply. But then, you also have a question of your own, and that is: "Where to?" Of course, NP could be a big issue for some Neopians, while for others, their budget can reach the sky. Perhaps your pet has their heart set on one of the various islands of Neopia, and with those options, which one do you choose? You could have a pirate-y adventure at Krawk Island, or perhaps a more tropical evening at Mystery Island…

If you're confused at which of the two islands you should visit (let's just ignore Roo Island for now, as it is still not finished), take a look at this Vacationer's Guide, and hopefully it will narrow out your choices for that lovely spring break you've been eager to plan for you and your Neopets. And if you are looking for a reliable source, this is the one, because it will give you tips for where to journey whether you are rich or poor.

Mystery Island: More than a mystery?

Maybe one time your mind ran over the subject of Mystery Island as a possibility for your travels. Oh, no, I can't go there; it's overrun by freaky coconut…freaks! is something you might be thinking, but you are very wrong. Although you should keep a lookout as not to cross paths with any grudge-holding natives-er… not that it is essential for me to mention this, but some of them are cannibals-there are actually some that are quite friendly (for example, the Tiki Tours guide!).

Okay, now it's time to get into an imaginative mood. Let's say you chose Mystery Island; here's how your day might go…

Ahhh… the big sea journey across the placid course toward the island of mysteries is complete, and your stomach is churning disruptively. It's time for a few calming activities to get ready for your big weekend!

So, if you're into the whole mystical thing, I'm sure you'll take a liking to the Island Mystic, who sits in his hut all day informing people of what their futures may hold. Just don't freak out about what he says, even if it's: "You will be taunted by several stealthy Aishas." *cringe*

Another one of the many lovely features in this exotic island's supply is the Cooking Pot! If you're up for mixing three different items to create something surprising, make sure you select a good set of items so that they don't get rejected-however, you'll just get the items back if they are rejected; which is a good thing. ^-^

Interested in a challenge? Then it would be wise to pay a visit to the Mystery Island Kitchen, hosted by a friendly Flotsam willing to accept your assistance in finding specific items for his recipes.

If you would like to take a chance in a perfectly free ticket-grabbing raffle, you could be eligible for a couple of NP and a prize or two. This can be fun, because you never know what you're going to get; though most of the time you probably won't win something that is worth much.

If the Tiki Tack shop intrigues you, be sure to compare their prices to the shop wizard's first, as most of them are not worth the buy. Same thing for the Rock Pool; though keep a watchful eye just in case a rare petpet pops up. You never know what could happen!

Battle fanatics will shriek with excitement to the fact that there is a huge island battle arena nestled right next to Techo Mountain, just waiting for visitors to participate in. So if your pet has a fancy for gritty, beige sand sliding under their weight as they scuffle and fight, this is a great place for them. Another wonderful thing that battlers may find hard to locate in any other part of Neopia is a training school, right at the center of the fascinating island. Codestones are quite costly, but if your pet needs quick training and a witty, agile Nimmo to teach them some cool techniques, they'll love it.

There are a few more features, like games such as Beach Volleyball and more shops like Tropical Foods, but the Trading Post basically sums up your entire vacation with great bargains with your fellow Neopians. There are a lot of awesome deals just waiting to be responded to, so checking that out before you leave is definitely a must.

Krawk Island: What do you mean you don't have any dubloons!!!

If you are in a particularly pirate-like mood, and have an abundance of dubloons handy, Krawk Island might just be the place you should visit for your time to relax and bond with your Neopets. Although it has more active games than Mystery Island, it has a lot of very intriguing features that might win you over.

One more time, get imaginative. The travel across Neopia's more torrential waters was a complete success, so you're in for some fun and exploring!

As previously stated, games are plenty in Krawk Island. And this precise amount of activities is wonderful for happy gamers who want to earn some NP. Dubloon Disaster is an event that could earn you about double the amount of points you have received while playing the game. Deck Swabber is quite effective when playing and earning NP, whereas Deck Ball sometimes is less successful in this area.

Those who love to savor the last bit of food and delight in tasty, cultured dishes will probably find The Golden Dubloon to be a highly delectable encounter. Don't be disappointed at the sound of food, though, because it's not just a boring thing to fill up hungry gullets. It is an interactive restaurant that pleases both you and your pets. Make sure you have quite a few dubloons before you enter; or you won't be permitted into the restaurant! Two other things that require your possession of dubloons are Smuggler's Cove and Dubloon-O-Matic.

For those who feed on adrenaline and are willing to spare 200 decent NPs will jump in excitement for the chance game of "Treasure of the Black Pawkeet", where you are capable of winning a lovely bag of NP or possibly the major jackpot! The jackpot can sometimes exceed 1 million NP at times!!!!

If your Neopet owns a Krawk petpet, why not check out that tiny cave located to the left of Smuggler's Cove? You could be in for some more adventures…

Certainly not last or even least is the Swashbuckling Academy, which might help you in savoring those last bits of dubloons you have left in your pocket at the end of your trip. Dubloons have less of an NP value than codestones do, so if you would rather pay for training that usually costs less than Island Training, this is the right place. One useful thing to note is that Cap'n Threelegs can give your pet free training if it is your pet's day, so keep yourself up-to-date with the Neopets' news.

A Quick Wrap-up

So you're still a bit hazy on which island to decide on, but you're happy you at least took some time to look into it. Well, now you have a bit of advice, and hopefully you will be able to make more informed decisions on your adventuring. If your brain is all cramped with ideas of where to go, take a relaxing break and restock your shop or play some games to earn NP while you think. And still, you don't have to make up your mind on which place you favor more; you can visit both islands at any time!

Author's note: Thank you for taking a look at my article. I was happy to write it, and I hope you were happy to read it. ^-^ Thanks to everyone for all of your kind Neomails about the older stories and articles I have written. You guys gave me so much support for my Snowy story, and even the series about it (do a search for tigerlizard5 in The Neopian Times search engine to read my other works). *grin* It's been so long since I've sent in anything to the Neopian Times. Fan mail will be very much appreciated.
