NEOBOARDS - If you have been in the Neopets Boards even once, you are sure to have heard of
secret avatars. The secret avatars are the latest craze to sweep Neopia!
There is even a board for Avatars/NeoSignatures. Everyone seems to be wanting
to get their hands on those secret avatars!
As an avid avatar collector, I get quite a few Neomails a day asking about them.
I really wanted to help all those Neopians that sent me Neomails so, one night,
I gathered my thoughts and typed up this guide for getting secret avatars effectively.
Well, first things first. Some of you may be asking:
What are Secret Avatars?
This is a more common question that I see in my Neomails and the chat boards.
So, in case you are a little “out” on what has been happening in Neopia lately,
let me clue you in. Secret avatars are little icons that you can use in the
Neopets boards to express yourself. There are some avatars that everyone has,
and then there are secret avatars that you can only get by doing certain things
in Neopia such as purchasing a certain item, getting high scores in certain
games, etc. New avatars are being released all the time, so you have to check
the news daily. If you don’t, you may miss out on the release of a new avatar,
and it might even be retired if you don’t get it quickly enough!
Figuring Out How to Get a Secret Avatar
The Neopets Team introduces all new avatars in the news, and it is up to you
to figure out how to gain access to them. I will not tell you how to get every
avatar, because I think that spoils the fun and everyone should try and figure
it out for themselves, but, here are a few tips in figuring out how to get a
new secret avatar:
1 - Look at the avatar, and think of any Neopets games that could be associated
with the image. If there is one, you may need to obtain a high score (not necessarily
on the High Score tables) in that game to get the avatar.
2 - Could any items be associated with the avatar in mind? Maybe you will
need to purchase that item and have it in your inventory, or feed it to a certain
neopet.
3 - Are there any words on the avatar? The word(s) may be a clue to what you
need to do to get the avatar. But, then again, as in many secret avatars, the
words might be pointless.
4 - Are there any Neopets characters or Neopets in the avatar? You may possibly
need to pay the character a visit (maybe do something for them?), or look them
up in the Neopedia to get the secret avatar. If there is a Neopet on the avatar,
then you may need to feed the neopet a certain item, find a user that has a
neopet that is painted as the one in the avatar is, or maybe take your Neopet
to a certain area.
5 - The avatar may only be accessible by getting a random event. If it is,
then there is no real way of assuring that you will get it, but you could try
playing a game that requires you to refresh the page often, like Pyramids, or
Meristones.
6 - You could try going into the Avatar/NeoSignature board and asking for
advice, but remember that no one likes beggars! There are also Neopets fan sites
that you could try going to that may have information about secret avatars.
(Only ones featured in Neopets Magazine though! Others may not be as credible.)
Getting Items For Secret Avatars
Some secret avatars require certain items to be purchased, and usually those
items are rather expensive. The best way to get the Neopoints for the items
is to play games that you are good at or that give out a good amount of Neopoints,
such as Extreme Potato Counter and Extreme Herder. Restock your shop. Get familiar
with the prices of items that are high-sellers like chocolates, codestones,
or faeries, and then buy them in the Neopets shops for cheap, and sell them
in your shop for a bit higher than you bought it for. Some people can get hundreds
of thousands of Neopoints this way! There are always great deals just waiting
to be spotted in the Auctions too! The auctions are filled with great deals.
Some users will lend you items for avatars, and you will usually need collateral
(which is Neopoints or items that are equal in value to the item you are borrowing).
Be careful when you are lending/borrowing because some scammers may steal your
items! ALWAYS use the Trading Post.
Getting High Scores for Secret Avatars
The secret avatars that require high scores in games are usually some of the
harder avatars to obtain if you are not the best game player. BUT, if you play
the needed game a LOT, then you are sure to get better with every play. Get
used to the game and soon you will be good enough to get the secret avatar.
You never know, you may get lucky some day and get a great score! NEVER give
your password out to someone else, so that they can get the avatar for you.
You can not risk your account like that, no matter how nice and honest the person
seems. What is safer is to maybe ask a relative or someone in your home that
is rather good at games to possibly help you. Do not get discouraged if you
see someone with many game avatars, but let their gain be inspiration for you
to try even harder!
Thinking Ahead
You may be able to predict what kinds of secret avatars will be released next.
For example , if you know that Blumaroo Day is tomorrow, it would be an educated
guess that there may be a Blumaroo avatar being released soon. If there is a
war going on or some kind of mystery being solved, then probably some war or
mystery related avatars will come out as well.
Closing/Credits
This guide shall hopefully give you some ideas and inspiration for getting the
secret avatars. Just remember to try your best, NEVER beg other users for items,
ALWAYS use the trading post if you are lending/borrowing items, NEVER give your
password out for game scores, and NEVER expect other people to do things for
