How Do You See Neopia? by smileyface12_5690 | |
For many, Neopia has been in it's beautiful, colorful, and extremely addictive
existence. With over forty types of unique and exceptional Neopet species, huge
lands where adventure flows through fields of excitement, and dozens of exhilarating
games to play until your eyes melt out of their sockets, Neopia is a very special
place indeed. Each and everyday children jump out of their seats as soon as they
hear the final bell of the day, eager to travel once again to the fantasy world
we know as Neopia.
And of course, every week, Neopian Times fans from far and wide gather around
their computers and wait anxiously (and rather impatiently, too) for the next
installment of their favorite online newspaper. The brilliant, hysterical comics
from comedians and artists across the globe; stories, short and long, filled
with deep emotion and roaring laughter from writers who pour their hearts into
everything they do; articles based on practicality and function, and some on
humor and jest... how could one not bow down in admiration to the wonders the
Neopian Times bestows upon us? Not to mention how each writer and artist's view
of Neopia differs greatly from the piece next to theirs. Each remarkable issue
takes us further into the minds of the writers, and shows us Neopia in a different,
but amazing light. They paint us a picture -- whether it be through words or
images -- about what their Neopia looks like. It's quite astonishing to see
how each person perceives this beautiful world of color and joy that we have
all come to love.
Neopia is a land of imagination. It's a separation between reality and fantasy,
uniting the online world to that of our own, and creating a whole new planet
that provides us an escape from both the trivial and extreme worries of everyday
life in this land we call Earth. And as we cannot actually physically visit
such a land, we do not know all there is to know about it. What is it really
like there? We only see it from the sidelines; we just provide food and care
for the Neopets that have the privilege to enjoy such a wondrous nation. Since
we cannot access this land for ourselves, writers invent what they believe Neopia
is really like.
Some see it as place where humans and Neopets live together in peace and harmony.
Others don't have owners or humans, and the pets live of their own free will.
Either way, both views invite a fun and creative atmosphere for the writer to
explore and bring into words for all of us die-hard fans to drool over once
more.
Of course, the existence of owners is not the only thing that sets each writer's
own Neopia apart from the rest... it's also the setting and overall air in which
the story, comic, or article takes place. If a tale is centered around a dark,
rainy cave where Frank Sloth and Chet Flash supporters gather and plot their
evil plots, you can easily tell that this particular writer's Neopia isn't a
very pleasant one. You may also come across a story in which happy little Neopets
frolic and play among Starflowers and Snake Roses or where they are adopted
from the pound by a young, carefree little girl and live happily ever after.
Both types of stories can be exciting and original, and although they supposedly
take place on the same planet, end up being completely opposite of each other.
Again, it all depends on what Neopia really is to you.
Also, your Neopia can be defined by the identification, or lack thereof, of
owner activities within your submissions. Games are sometimes represented as
arcade-style video games, or by a somewhat large and imposing mansion with pretty
Peophin-shaped fountains on either side of the doorway and enormous hedges trimmed
to look like Ixi all along the path to the entrance to represent the games room.
Actually, I've never read a story like that, but hey, it could happen. Maybe
there could be Krawk doormen to open the colossal golden double doors and take
your Acara fur coat as you step into the huge game room filled with shimmery
chandeliers and Strawberry Cybunny Cakes galore...
Alright, then.
The question is (as you can probably tell by reading the title of this article),
how do you see Neopia? If you were to write a story (or if you already do),
what would Neopia be like? What would be the average day for the normal neopet?
How would you as a human be treated among these furry, fuzzy, and incredibly
adorable creatures? What would Neopia be?
It's a question that all writers and artists must face before beginning a
piece, whether they know it or not. As an author, you are creating a world for
your readers to travel to. Although it has been predetermined to be Neopia,
you can mold it and form it into whatever you like, due to the fact that Neopia
is just a mythical place of which we know little about. It's an adventure every
time you open up that word processor, fingers itching to type up a brand-new
narrative where you can create your own little world for your characters to
interact in. Hundreds of people across the globe do so week after week, some
more successful than others, but they do so all the same. Well, not all the
same, so to speak. Each Neopia is different, and invites a new sequence of dramatic
or comic events that readers could never even dream of. It's a fascinating thing
to ponder.
So now that you've strolled through this article, hopefully you'll begin to
really appreciate how much work goes into every piece in The Neopian Times.
It takes a lot of persistence, dedication, and discipline to pull it off, and
we are lucky enough to see the results of such noble effort in every jam-packed
issue. They have to invent every part of Neopia and pray to Fyora that readers
like it. And if it doesn't quite make it, then they get back up and try again
from a new angle. Neopia is never the same.
