NeoHobbies by apollo_lunar | |
NEOPIA CENTRAL - Everyone should have a neohobby. A neohobby is a hobby you
have on Neopets. Whether it is increasing your pet's stats, filling up other
people's inboxes, making Neopoints, creaming the Chia Clown, finishing up your
gallery, or ripping people off at the Trading Post, neohobbies give us something
to do when we're bored.
Why should I have a neohobby? One may say, NeoPets is my hobby. Yes, but to
those people who have been on Neopets for more than one month, NeoPets may get
boring if you don't have a neohobby. To those newbies out there, this may be
shocking news. But there's so much to do, so much to explore, so many Neopoints
to earn. Yes, I know, but after awhile, people lose their interest. I know this
because several people I've met had an account on Neopets, but quit because
it got too boring, and I've had this feeling too.
Other than Neopets, I had no other methods to entertain myself. So I got a
neohobby to absorb my time, several in fact, but the one I'm most involved with
currently is collecting Neopian Times rejection e-mails.
To those NT regulars out there, stop laughing this instant. Collecting rejection
e-mails. is too a hobby. It's just a shame that they're all the same. I should
know. *Mutters darkly* The editor should send out some new ones *wink, wink*
Hint, hint. *Cough* some time so my collecting would be tad bit more interesting,
but it's not like I try to receive rejection e-mails., oh, no. They come to
me. I've even got a separate file on my email program to store them. (Just kidding,
but I will use this idea in the future.)
Anyway, I got a little off the topic there. My point there is that my neohobby
made Neopets more interesting and worthwhile. If you are beginning to think
that Neopets is too boring or you've got nothing to do, then I suggest you get
a neohobby. They keep you busy. Also, when choosing a neohobby, make sure it's
not as depressing and humiliating as collecting NT rejection e-mails.
If you're a person who doesn't have a neohobby and/or is having a hard time
trying to find a one that suits your interest or personality, I'm going to help
you out a bit. I've listed a few neohobbies here that you may enjoy. Remember,
you can think up of your own neohobby, as long as it keeps you entertained,
busy, (stealing is not considered a neohobby) it works. For example, no one
suggested that I collect NT rejection e-mails.; I was creative enough to come
up with that idea on my own. I love making editors feel guilty. Muhahahaha!
(Hey, NT rejects use the evil laughter, too.)
Expressing your obsession with a particular item, group of items, type of items,
etc.
Collecting bottles of sand would most definitely fall under this category.
Basically, in this neohobby, one just keeps on purchasing an item, group of
items, and types of item until they are satisfied, which is usually never. (For
example: "Ooooh, a bottle of green sand! I only have 594 of those! No offense
to the ones that do) I read about some NT authors who collect Neopian Times
Issue 3. Just ask them, it's very fascinating. Here's some NT trivia for you:
I know a particular NT regular who has a thing for Green Lucky Boots. Green
Lucky Boots also make quite a few appearances in his hilarious comics. Can you
guess who?
Even though, this isn't the most economical neohobby offered, it is fairly
common and will keep one busy for a while.
Creaming the Chia Clown and other weaklings at the Battledome.
This hobby is mainly for the Battledomers. This is an excellent neohobby, as
two battles are never the same. Unless, of course, you use a seasonal attack
pea against the Chia Clown on your first attack every time. But for the more
known and powerful pets, the Chia Clown may get boring, but that's okay, right?
Doesn't everyone wish to be on an opponent high score table? Fortunately/ Unfortunately,
opponents get more difficult to beat every time you defeat them. Tracking other
people's pets is fun too, but make sure not to pick on the newbies' pets. It's
very tempting, I know, but it's not very nice, and everyone wants to be nice,
you know.
Note that this neohobby is both time and Neopoint consuming.
Questing for Illusen, Jhudora, Taelia, Edna, etc.
Doing this is often profitable, but you need quite a few Neopoints to complete
the quests. I suggest doing the Flotsam Chef's quests on Mystery Island, but
only if the items he requests have a value under 2000 NP. I also like to see
him get angry when I (purposely) fail his quests.
Designing your pet's web page.
This is a great way to introduce yourself to the wonderful world of HTML, the
computer programmer's language. It stands for Hypertext Markup Language. Now
go impress someone with that. It's really not at all difficult. I am not yet
fluent, and I go the HTML guide, that Neopets provide, for help
Also, if you think you've made your pet's page a masterpiece, then I would
highly recommend entering the Site Spotlight. You never know, your pet's page
just might win! The winner gets a trophy and a bunch of Neopoints. I can't remember
how much, but it's worth it.
Reading The Neopian Times.
This is something I find myself doing very often. It is extremely pleasurable
and is often amusing. One will also find educational articles, much like this
one, that will assist you to success on Neopets. The Short Stories section also
offers an outstanding selection of, well, short stories. I personally read the
Editorials first to get Neopets updates beforehand. I also like reading other
people's questions and Donna's answers to them.
Getting something published for The Neopian Times.
For the Neopians who already have done so, I am jealous. For the ones, who
haven't submitted anything to The Neopian Times, try it.
Writing for the NT is pretty great. You get to see your work published. If
that hasn't convinced you, people who get something published in then Neopian
Times also get a trophy too. (People stampede to desks) Whoa.
Well, that mainly sums it up for my article. My message to you is, or the thesis
statement, is that getting a neohobby will increase your amusement and decrease
your boredom. Now go out to Neopia and find yourself a neohobby. Now. Muhahahaha!
Ooops. Heh, heh. If you heed my advice, you won't ever get bored of Neopets,
which, by the way, is a crime.
I would like to thank spell check and my computer's built in thesaurus.
With all the Neo terms, spell check went crazy. Oh, and writing thank you notes
to inanimate (thanks again) objects is another hobby of mine.
