Top Ten Mistakes Beginners Make

by covergirl_tanemura

Let’s face it, we all make mistakes. Buying a cherry stick because you thought it really did grant wishes, or even just feeding a Floud carrots. However, some of the more obvious mistakes NeoPets beginners make can be corrected. With careful research I found that in order for some people to correct themselves they need to see it mapped out (or pointed out in this case)- and if it must be, I will be the one to do so. Which allowed The top 10 mistakes Beginners Make to be born.

***

10. Creating 4 pets: Hear ye, hear ye, newbies of Neopia! Your budget of NP is only 200 Neopoints when you begin, so how are you going to make your pets happy and healthy when you’ve only got 200 NP and most-likely have no experience with the games? Take a few minutes and go through every page of create a pet, narrow down to your favorite four. Think of your favorite things to do. For example, watching birds. If Pteri is in your favorite list, then create that pet. So when you get more experienced you can finally keep adding on more pets until you’ve got your favorite four.

9. Avoiding the Games section, and heading to Chat/ect: I’ll admit, when I was a newbie I did in fact do this. I thought making friends was more important then making NP. Let’s just say, I was wrong. The games section is your basic hope of getting NP, even if you’re a inexperienced gamer and only get 50 Neopoints per game- it’s still NP. Start with the easy games. Some of these include Meerca Chase, Extreme Herder, and Destruct-O-Match. They all might sound a little hard at first but don’t discourage yourself.

8. Spamming the Message boards with constant questions: Oooh, the Message Boards! Neofriends galore, trading posts, game hints, and the occasional Scammer (beware of these buggers!). Sounds great, right? Well, if you treat it properly. On occasions, you’ll see a newbie going crazy with the ‘post’ button and posting the same question over and over again. However, this can be avoided. Post just one question at first, it’ll probably take a few minutes but if you’re at the right board at the right time somebody will respond. If they don’t then five minutes later or so repost it. If this doesn’t get answered try another day, nobody likes a constant poster.

7. Posting messages like ‘rate my user lookup’ when they haven’t changed anything at all: Staying with the message board theme here, I have to say the same thing. This will get people quite mad. They click on the beginners message board and user lookup expecting something even slightly put effort into, and they get a blank background and a ‘newbie’ shield. Remember, when you start out you won’t have the best-looking User look up, nor is it original. If you want a good comment, and not hate Neomail for telling them to go to your user lookup and blah blah blah, then you can go to Css help websites. For example, I know a green Kougra by the name of Csshelp that would be ever-so willing to help you out (and all you have to do is go to her pet-website!)

6. Join guild, leave it. Join guild, leave it: This can really get peoples blood boiling. I know, beginners really mean well when they do this- their interest differ and you can only have one guild at a time. So, they just switch guilds from time to time. You could always find a guild that fits all of your interest in one. Do you happen to favor grooming your NeoPet? Or do you prefer building up your Neopoints for something special (perhaps that paintbrush you’ve been eyeing but know beginners can never get?)

5. Not creating a bank account, then losing it all (or part of it) to one of Neopia's oh so not-loved villains: You’ve been working up all that NP. Maybe you even have 2,000 NP by now! And yes, something stole it. Though I can’t sit here and tell you that there is some miracle force that’ll give it back to you, I can tell you not to complain. There are people who dislike complainers. This is an easy-as-pie hint. GO GET A BANK ACCOUNT, NOW! I know that sounds a little forceful to a ‘newbie’ but it’s a big tip that everybody should do the minute they make an account. With a bank account you can save, and get a little interest now and then.

4. Going to the pound and getting many pets, then putting them back into the pound: How would you feel if you were a poor little NeoPet? You think “Oh Joy! Oh bliss! I’m getting an owner today!” Sitting in a cramped up cage then going into a nice home only to find out happiness lasts four seconds. You’re then shoved back into a cold cage with little food. I’ve got nothing to say to people who do this, the pound isn’t a place to get rid of your pets for no reason. That is all.

3. Not ‘spreading your wings’ far enough:For people who aren't philosophy majors, this means people who don’t click on the ‘explore’ button. This button can be your best friend, I mean sometimes going to the same Neopian shops is a tad bland. The explorer bar spices it up with different places to explore. For example, Faerieland is good for a high-flying experience. Or do you care for stars? The Virtupets Space Station could be your new daily visit. Take a trip to all the different places besides Neopia. Don't limit yourself to things that just look cool. For example, don’t just click on Faerieland all the time, go to Haunted Woods. Be a bit spooked out! Then you won’t be so shy when people talk about Tiki Tack Tombola and you have no clue of to what it is.

2. Claming you’re something you are not: This isn’t very common, but I’ve seen it. People claming to be incredibly rich and be part of the NeoPets team. Beginners might think this will get them brownie points, but it’ll only get them frozen. Yet again, a ‘harsh-love’ hint. DON’T PRETEND TO BE ANY PART OF THE NEOPETS TEAM. I don’t care if you’re swimming in millions of dollars at home- the NeoPets Team makes the rules. Not you.

1. Getting Scammed/ believing scams/getting hacked/ect: I’ve seen this happened to the smallest Newbie to the richest 3-year account person. Scammers are everywhere, no matter how safe you think something is. Some of the most common scams are websites are the millionaire-maker ones. These are ones that say “type in your password, username, how many Neopoints you want.” They usually have a horrible reason for asking for your password like, “We need your password so we can access your account.” Scammers are usually the people who pretend to be the NeoPets Team. The NeoPets team has stated it millions of times, and now I am going to. The Neopets Team will NEVER ask for your password, they’ll never give out millions of NP for no reason, and they play the game fairly.

****Super Huge Hint(extra)**** I can not stress this enough. Being a newbie you’ve got millions of little daily freebies (and just one-time freebies) that other users may not have. For example, you’ve got the Newbie Pack which is located the minute you click on the ‘items’ button. You also have freebies older users have for example: Tiki Tack Tombola and Coltzan's Shrine.

Beginner or a non-beginner, it’s nice to look at the mistakes we often make. Though this article probably won’t correct every beginner, I hope that it does help out some people. Perhaps they won’t be scammed, or wont get four pets on their first day.
