Codestones and Quests: Training Your Pet

by rachierye

Training your pet for the Battledome is less expensive than you think. First of all, there are more ways than one to do so. The most obvious one is to take your pet to Mystery Island to the Training School. The other, less common one, is to complete Faerie Quests. Either way, it's much cheaper than you think.

Codestones are usually priced between 5,000 NP and 6,000 NP. A lot for one hour in Training School, right? Some Neopians continue to sell Codestones as cheap as 50 NP!! The people who consistently watch for these Codestones, I call WW, for Wiz Watchers. They keep entering 'Codestone' in the Wiz, until they find a Codestone priced extremely low. I have to admit, I have tried this once or twice to see if it does work. It worked indeed and I peeked into my Items to see 2 Codestones that I had bought for the price of 2,000 NP each.

Should you sell your Codestone or keep it? Well, that is entirely up to you. If you don't want anything to do with the Battledome, I suggest you sell it. If you are training your pet to be an aspiring Battledome champion, go ahead use it. But wait, now you need the right Codestone...

What do you do when you need a Lu Codestone, when you have an Orn Codestone? Simple, take it to the Trading Post. Browse the lots to look for a single Lu Codestone up for trade. The only problem with the Trading Post is that there are only a certain number of trades that can go under an item. Example: Lu Codestone will have 20 trades. Most of them are combined with other items. Believe me, there are millions more trades that contain Lu Codestone in them, but they can only post so many. I suggest to watch the 'Newest 20' under the browse category. There you can find new trades that probably won't show up under there item name when you search for them. When a trade has been accepted by both parties, you must wait for the transaction on the trade to complete, so don't freak out. It takes a minute to have the item arrive in your Items.

When you get your Codestone go directly to Mystery Island under Explore, and go to the Training School. Click on 'Status', then find the pet that you are paying for to get trained. Click the 'Pay' button to give the School your Codestone. In 1 hour (for beginners, there are more hours for pets over level 20) your pet will increase one point in the section of the bet stats to raise. It has been known, that if you are lucky enough, you sometimes can get raised 2 points, although it has never happened to me :(

When the time has passed go pick up your pet from school. Under 'Status' go to your pet to finish your course. You will then see how your pet has increased in stats once you click the 'Complete Course' button.

Faerie Quests.
Hard to accomplish, easy most of the time with a Neopian who is willing to help you out. They are random events, so you cannot choose when they will come. The more sites you visit, the more of a chance that you will happen to get one.

One day when you are checking this random shop for a well priced book, the Dark Faerie tells you she needs a Cally, and straight away. These mild tempered Faeries love to receive items, and in return they will give your pet better stats. They can range from 2 points up in movement to gain one level completely. Sometimes they give you quests where the item is semi-rare and sometimes as expensive an Air Faerie. Always try to complete them, if you want to make your pet better. If you deny the Faerie of her item, she will be sure that you will not get another Quest for some time.

So, you want to complete the quest, where do you go to get it since you cannot use the Shop Wizard? Some Neopians head to the Auctions. I disagree with this because it either can take hours to get your item, and while you are away from your computer, someone else could bid on it at the last minute. Others flock to the Trading Post. This is a neutral place to be. You might be able to actually find the item and get it easily. But usually, people leave the computer and cost you hours. The other downfall is someone else could always place a better bet on the trade. I suggest heading off to the Chat Area. Go to the Quest or Help section and persistently post for someone to tell you the cheapest shops on the Wiz for your item. One person will respond, I promise you. Then simply go to that Neopians shop and buy the item, no questions asked. When people ask for money, or say they can put it in there shop, say no thanks. First of all, you don't need to pay them anything. You are asking for neighbourly help, and that shouldn't come with a rice, correct? Second of all, some Neopians place the item in there shop for MUCH more than the Shop Wiz. So, just ask for the 3 cheapest shops on the Shop Wiz.

Then just turn your item in to the Faerie and you shall be rewarded. No hassles.

So, either way, using Codestones or Faerie Quest you should not solemnly commit to one or the other. Take it as it comes, and appreciate it. Trust me, some Faerie is looking over you and your pets.
