The Battle for Meridell

by arthurbulla

MERIDELL - Welcome Back! I'm sure you all remember me! Well, if you don't, I wrote an article on Making NP Off the War, a *while* back. Anyway, today I'm here to talk about the Battle With Darigan (yes, capitalized). I know, I know, some introductory sentence, but, hey! Anyway, by now, you've probably heard all about the war, and the Battle With Darigan. If you haven't, then you should have.

Anyway, about 5-7 (Maybe 8, depending on when the Neoteam decides to release the Times this week) days ago, or, to make it easier, on Monday, April 21st, at 5 P.M., NST, (so many commas!) we got a news announcement:

LORD DARIGAN IS ATTACKING!!!

Instantly, the whole of Neopia was thrown into a frenzy. The Battledome Chat was slowly ground to a halt. Then, an explosion of posts, ranting about how much HP Darigan had. Many BDers were relying on Majal_kita, the strongest pet in Neopia, to finish the job, but even he was no match for the immense power that Darigan contained in his Orb. Fights broke out between fellow BDers, on whether or not Majal_kita could defeat Darigan. Many believed he could. However, many more believed that it was impossible. At least, not with Darigan at 150k HP!

Meanwhile, others took this opportunity to get a bit richer. While the rest of Neopia banged away at Darigan's HP, bit by bit, the owners who knew they had no chance, after maybe one or two fights, turned to Restocks and Auctions. Both Restocks and Auctions were going much easier for a while, with many of the shops deserted, and many of the Auctions going unnoticed. I, myself, while still checking up on Darigan, was able to make a tidy sum from my shop (Which, if I told, would be flooded by people trying to get items. ^^;).

After a while, Neopia settled back to its normal self. Chats went back to normal, Restocks and Auctions were, once again, full of people, even though Darigan hadn't been defeated. Pleas of help were still being flung around in the BDC, but those went largely unnoticed. But what exactly made Darigan tick? What were his weapons, what was the maximum damage he could do? What items were banned against him?

What Makes Darigan Tick?

First of all, before we get into Darigan, lets see what happened to our weapons. A bit before Darigan was released, Drain Life was downgraded to a maximum of 50 drain points. As many of you who fought Darigan could see, this would be a hard thing to overcome, as before, you could to up to 100 points of damage. Drain Life has recently been re-upgraded however, and can once again drain 100 HP. Another weapon that was downgraded was Thyora's tear. This came as a *major* blow to many high-ranking Battledomers. Thyora's tear used to be able to block all icons, a major help, even if it was only Once-Per-Battle. However, after the downgrade, the tear no longer blocked dark icons! This broke apart one of the major strategies of the Battledome (T-tear and freezing item first turn, second turn, pound with a powerful weapon), and discouraged many major Battledomers from fighting Darigan.

While these were downgraded, other items were forbid completely from being used against Darigan. These included Chia flour (Not Allowed on any One Player Opponents), stealing items (Don't want us to get that Orb, I assume), and Hubrids Puzzle Box (After 3 turns, 1/3 of an opponents life would be taken. That would have been anything from 10K-50K!).

So, we know what items can't be used against Darigan, but what items did Darigan use himself? Darigan himself had many items. These included, the Orb (of course), a prismatic mirror, Darigan's sword of death, his gauntlet of doom, shield of malevolence, or his staff, all of which did insane amounts of damage. After a while, however, the Neo-team saw how powerful the Orb really was, and it was downgraded. Now, before the downgrade, Darigan could do up to 7K points of damage in one turn. After the downgrade, Darigan did up to 2K points of damage. Though this was a 5K boost, no regular pet could stand up to him.

So now we know how powerful Darigan was. So how could he ever be defeated? Well, as the Neoteam knew it would be next-to-impossible to beat a 150K HP Darigan, they set up a system. I'm not exactly sure this is how it went, but as the Neo-team said 120K pets had been defeated, and that's approximately how much HP Darigan lost, I assume that for each pet he defeated, Darigan lost 1 HP. Don't ask me, maybe he got tired. Who knows? Anyway, after nearly two days, Darigan was weak enough to be fought. Hold on, two days? Yes, two days. Want a chart? OK! ^^

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Yes, this shall be an insanely short section.

As you can see, Darigan is already defeated. Who did it? When did they do it? How did they do it? Well, as many thought, it was Majal_Kita, under the ownership of featheralley, who defeated Darigan. If you had been paying attention to my chart, you would have seen that Darigan was defeated at about 3:15 P.M. NST, on Tuesday, April 22nd. How they did it, we will probably never know. I tried contacting featheralley, but her Neomail box was full. Oh well! ^^. Darigan *was* defeated at about 30k HP, so congrats to Majal_Kita!

However, many people don't have this attitude. I'm not here to have an argument, so I'll just list the facts. Many people believe that the fight wasn't fair. Of course Majal_Kita would win. He had the highest stats in all of Neopia! Featheralley didn't even fight more than twice! I, myself, disagree with these statements, but you yourself can decide.

Well, that's about it. There you have it, a full report on how Darigan was defeated. ^^

This is arthurbulla, saying, "Cya!"
