The Made-Up Monster Story

by ginger23456

"Hey Ginger what are you doing?" asked Jenniola my Faerie Ixi one morning.

"I'm writing a story for The Neopian Times. I'm hoping that this one will get in. My others haven't. I don't know why. I guess I'm not good enough." I looked down at what I had written so far to make sure that it all made sense and that I had punctuated properly. "Everything okay so far. This one will get in, I'm sure it will!"

"Of course it will! Your one of the best writers ever! Don't let those other stories that failed to get published let you down. They obviously don't know good talent when they see it."

I scowled at her at that point. "Jenniola, they do know good talent when they see it. I mean take too_kule for instance. He is one decent writer! I just have to... well... improve a little that's all! Now why don't you go upstairs, gather your brother and sisters and we can all go for a nice quiet stroll through the forest?"

"That sounds like a great idea!" She ran off upstairs leaving me to think about what to write next for my short story. I hadn't got too far though. I read through the few lines that I had written. I try and write for The Neopian Times, Jenniola comes downstairs and aggravates me, I tell her to go upstairs and suggest a nice long stroll. "Hmmm. I need to improve this... I need to improve this a lot. I have to make that stroll through the forest exciting and thrilling! I have to make it so that no reader will want to take their eyes off it!"

I thought and thought of what to put next but my mind went blank... completely blank. What would catch the reader's attention? How would I maintain an exciting plot all the way to the end? How would I make the story all come back to some sort of reality at the end? All of these I had to think of and that was very hard. I thought and thought about this whilst my Neopets were getting ready for our stroll in the forest.

"I've got it!" I decided to take my story with me whilst we went on our little stroll. That way, I could right about it and make it the best story ever! It had to be an exciting place though. Somewhere that would be thrilling all the time!

"We're ready!" shouted Candy as he came charging down the stairs. "We're ready as we'll ever be!" shouted Eylora my baby Cybunny seconds after him. She always got excited over little things like this. She was a baby after all. Candy had no excuses though of behaving like he did.

We walked out of the door and I pulled it closed behind us. It was warm and sunny outside and there was a cool breeze blowing about the place. It was the perfect day to stroll through the... Haunted Woods! I always liked a bit of excitement in my life and the Haunted Woods would be an exciting walk!

"I'm going home then!" wailed Candy. "There's no way I'm going in there! No way what so ever!"

"Don't worry Candy!" I said. "Eylora will look after you won't you dear!"

"Of course!" she said, giggling as she spoke.

The Haunted Woods looked a scary place from afar. The trees all seemed to be dead, it looked dark and I could have sworn that I saw a bolt of lightening flash through the sky as I neared. However, all that just seemed to be my imagination. We entered the Haunted Woods in an excited state; except Candy of course who was shaking from head to foot. There wasn't really anything actually to be excited about though.

"Ginger?" asked Alizabella my cloud Ixi. "This is really boring! Can we go home?"

"But this is the perfect place for me to write a story for The Neopian Times! I need to get published Alizabella! That's the important part! Published!"

There didn't really seem anything to write about though. Okay my Neopets were arguing but if I wrote about that it wouldn't get published. I can remember the time when I wrote a story like that. Two weeks I spent on it too and the story got rejected! Me and my Neopets had a day out to Terror Mountain... and we argued... and argued... and argued. Hang on a minute I thought to myself. Where exactly is this going? I have to make my story exciting not babble on about my misfortunes! I've got it! This will be the best story ever!

"You four! Get over here now! I have big plans!"

* * *

"I'm not doing that!" yelled Alizabella in complete disgust. I'm not dressing up as a..."

     "Shhh! You'll ruin the story!"

"And Eylora," I whispered in her ear "You are going to be..."

     "Got it!"

"Okay everyone! Get into your places please! I want no mistakes! No flaws! Nothing bad! Okay here it goes!"

As I walked through the Haunted Woods, my baby Cybunny Eylora by my side, I was overcome with a sudden terror. It swept through my bones, my very flesh and blood! The trees seemed to move all around me, and not because a wind was blowing but because they seemed to be alive. Noises could be heard all around. I heard a piercing scream in the distance. It was pitch dark and I was afraid... very, very afraid!

"Ginger I don't like this!" Eylora whispered, quivering as she spoke. "I really think we should go home."

"Me too Eylora but this is really exciting! And anyway, you'll be safe as long as you have me."

Eylora jumped up into my arms and I hugged her. Her bright blue eyes didn't look half as bright as they did in the sunlight. She was still shaking but she smiled at me. Suddenly though Eylora and I jumped out of our skin. I looked into the darkness, my eyes peeled, my legs shaking. I couldn't believe what I was staring straight at.

A monster made up of... different pets! My only guess was that it was a Lab Ray experiment gone wrong. It had the head of a Faerie Ixi and Chia's feet! It was also coated in a thick layer of green slime in which I couldn't make out what the torso of the monster looked like.

"I need food!" it bellowed. "I fancy a bit of roast Cybunny! A baby Cybunny would be great! Mwuahahahaha! And I also fancy a bit of human to go with that! How about... a hand or something!"

That's when I ran. I ran all the way back home with a hysterical Eylora in my arms... leaving the slimy, hungry monster in the dark Haunted Woods. Unbeknown to me however, the monster was in fact following us! Every few seconds I would hear a sloshing noise and a groan. I turned around but found nothing but the darkness beyond.

All of a sudden my heart lurched as I looked down at Eylora's petrified face. Her eyes were wider than usual and filled with terror. She was shaking more than ever now and then she pointed.

     "Over there! Behind that tree!"

I looked behind the tall, dark tree in which she had pointed at. My heart gave another lurch; must have been the tenth time this hour. The part Ixi, part Chia came skulking towards us, its mad Ixi eyes penetrating my skin. I looked down at its feet only to find it beginning to stumble! It looked like it was about to trip over its own feet!

"Aaaaaahhhh!" it screamed. "Candy what do you think you're doing!" screeched the monster.

All of a sudden, the monster fell to the ground revealing three insane Neopets... which were... yeah okay, they were my own Neopets.

I ran up to Candy and grabbed his slimy arm. "You've just ruined my best story!" I shouted through gritted teeth. "Home! Now!"

As we walked home, Candy tagging along behind, and my Neopets all sulking, little did I know that a monster far scarier, far more exciting to write about was lurking right behind us.

The End
