The Petpets vs. Balthazar

by fzun

Untitled Document Once upon a time in a secret spot of Happy Valley there lived a village of wintry petpets. Polarchucks, Snowbunnies, Onas, and Candychans lived together in perfect harmony. They laughed, they played, they helped each other out; it was their own little perfect world. Until the day...

***

"What a perfect day" one of the Polarchucks said to a Snowbunny while lying in the snow. "We have plenty of food today, the sun is shining, the snow isn't melting, it's all good."

"I know, isn't it wonderful? It’s so quiet, and serene, free of danger, like nothing could ever go wrong," the Snowbunny replied. She was resting in a hammock attached to two trees, swinging back and forth with her eyes closed.

     "RUN!" a voice yelled.

"What was that?" the Polarchuck asked immediately sitting up.

"Oh, probably one of those games that those Onas are playing. They're so young and playful."

"Yeah, you're probably right," the Polarchuck said slowly and carefully took his place in the snow.

"RUN! BALTHAZAR!" the Snowbunny fell out of her hammock. She looked over to where the voice came from and saw in the distance a blur of blue and evil. It was Balthazar.

All the petpets looked into the distance and saw him. They started screaming and everything turned into total chaos.

"Quick! Follow me!" the Polarchuck shouted and took off into a field of snow. The Snowbunny took off after him and soon followed the rest of the Snowbunnies and Polarchucks. The Candychans and Onas were still in the village in chaos. The Snowbunny sighed, and took off for the other petpets. Soon she reached the village. She whistled a loud, shrill whistle. The petpets stopped moving.

"Okay, calm down. If you follow me you'll be safe," she said and motioned for the others to follow her. She took off. The other petpets followed.

They ran out of the security of the village and tried to catch up with the other Snowbunnies and Polarchucks. The Snowbunny could still make them out in the distance. An Ona looked behind her back to Balthazar destroying their village. She cried out in despair.

"Pick up the pace!" she yelled to the younger petpets and they took off running even faster. One of the Candychans stopped to glance behind his back. Balthazar was now done with their village and was chasing after them.

"Aah! He's chasing us now!" the young Candychan yelled and started dashing towards the others.

***

The Polarchuck looked behind them. Where did the Snowbunny go? He looked over the heads of the crowd to see the Snowbunny with a crowd of Candychans and Onas Balthazar was right on their tail.

"Quick! We have to turn around!" he yelled and made a U-turn for the others. In suit the others followed. Quickly the Polarchuck devised a plan in his head.

"Here's the plan!" he shouted to the petpets. We go behind Balthazar and start to chase him. That will make him start chasing us. Then the others will start chasing him and it should make Balthazar confused! Everybody got it?" the petpets nodded.

The petpets put their plan into action. They suddenly started drifting to the right, out of the way of the other petpets. Soon enough the other petpets passed, Balthazar at their heel. The Polarchuck took off after Balthazar and motioned the others to do the same. The noise of their paws were deafening. It was like a loud roar, almost similar to the sound of a tornado. The Polarchuck ran faster and faster, feeling the icy cool wind whip across his face. He was directly behind Balthazar. He motioned for the other petpets to stop. They obeyed and the Polarchuck went on running. The stretched out his paw. It wouldn't reach. He put all his strength into running faster. He stretched out his paw again and this time it reached. He tugged on Balthazar's tail.

"OWW!" Balthazar yelled out in pain. He whipped around to see a laughing Polarchuck chasing after a crowd of laughing Snowbunnies and other Polarchucks. Balthazar growled and took off after the Polarchuck at full speed.

The Snowbunny figured out the Polarchuck's plan. She huddled the petpets into a circle. She quickly explained the plan and the petpets nodded excitedly. Then the Snowbunny made a mad rush for Balthazar. The Candychans and Onas followed in pursuit. The Snowbunny reached out for his tail and gave it a yank.

"OWW!" Balthazar yelled again and saw a giggling crowd of other petpets. He chased after them and the Polarchuck's group followed. The Polarchuck gave a tug.

"OWW!" he turned around after the Polarchuck's group.

"OWW!" he turned around after the Snowbunny's group.

     "OWW!"

     "OWW!"

The petpets fell into the snow laughing. Balthazar stared angrily at the petpets laughing at him. He pounced on a Snowbunny.

"Think it's funny huh? Well you know, I'm famous for eating petpets," he said, slobber dripping from his mouth. The Snowbunny. looked up in terror at Balthazar.

"I... I... I.. n-no s-s-ir..." the Snowbunny said frightened. She was terrified of Balthazar.

That’s when the Candychan saw his chance. He stared at Balthazar and quietly yet quickly ran behind him. He was watching his swishing tail, just waiting to be pulled...

"OWWW!" Balthazar screamed out in pain. He looked at his tail. A small part was missing. Then he looked around at the petpets. His eyes focused in on a particular Candychan with his hands behind his back. He could see a small piece of blue hair sticking out from behind his back. Balthazar whimpered and ran away, crying.

"Why did you pull out his hair?" the Polarchuck asked angrily.

"I-I-I d-didn't k-know s-sir," the Candychan said whimpering. He looked like he was about to cry.

"You weren't supposed to pull his hair out, you were just supposed to give a tug," the Snowbunny said coldly.

"We should do something for Balthazar!" one of the Ona suggested.

"That's a great idea!" exclaimed the Snowbunny. "But what should we do?"

"Let's throw a party!" one of the younger petpets suggested. The other petpets agreed that was a good idea.

So then the petpets went back to their village and started preparing for their party. They sent Balthazar his invitation and then went to bed after a hard day's work.

Two days later it was time for the party. The petpets gathered in the center of the village. It was decorated with lots of decorations. Cybunny cakes lined a long table. Everyone wore a cracker hat.

At about noon, Balthazar entered the village. His tail was covered in a bandage, from where the hair was yanked out. He looked angrily at the petpets.

A Candychan, the same one who yanked out the hair, approached Balthazar, hands behind his back. Balthazar looked at him curiously. Everyone saw Balthazar's paws go near his tail. The Candychan got closer.

"I made this for you Mr. Balthazar," the Candychan said quietly. Balthazar took the card that was handed to him. He read it.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I'm sorry I hurt your tail
and the rest of us are too.

Balthazar stared at the card. He motioned to the Candychan to come closer. The Candychan hesitated, then obeyed. Balthazar held out his hand and motioned with his other for the Candychan to hold it. The Candychan looked curiously at Balthazar, but then listened. Suddenly Balthazar tightened his grip and in one swift movement the Candychan was in Balthazar's stomach. He also ate the card.

Balthazar stared at the petpets, whom were in shock. He growled.

     "Who's next?"

The petpets took off. Balthazar followed.

A Snowbunny on the sidelines sighed.

"Here we go again!" she said and raced off.
