More Neggsweeper Secrets

by Pakjohnson

Frankly, I'm disappointed! I only got two Neomails with any tips to put up! I was hoping to get several different people to send in patterns and such but I guess only a few people cared enough to send in anything. Now, on to my tips for playing in general. First of all, not every game is easy, even if you know every possibility. Sometimes there's no way to tell and there is a fifty-fifty chance you will get it right. For instance:

X21
X21
X21
2OO
2SX
2XS
2OO
=
2XS
OR
2SX
X21
X21
X21

When you have a 50/50, its best to just guess, and if you win, good if you lose, don't worry about it. The hardest part of a Neggsweeper game is getting started, and it gets harder with each difficulty level. With hard, you'll probably start 1 out of five without hitting a trap before an empty square. You get large prizes for hard, though, so if you play on hard, then every 3 or 4 games, play easy to earn back the money you lost. I usually play medium, but that's hard enough most of the time. The main difference between them is that if you uncover 20 or more on easy, you get that much doubled, on easy, that much tripled, and on hard, that much quadrupled. Now for the patterns people sent in.

Timoniv pointed out that I forgot to mention the most basic pattern - a one on any corner means that corner is a trap (if there are no traps nearby).

The rest is from one very perceptive player--iiridayn. He sent me a very long Neomail so I'll copy it here and thank him very much... this is very useful.

These are all I could make up on the spur of the moment. I hope that they help some.

Thank you very much, Iiridayn and Timoniv and Best Wishes from Your Reporter,
