OGRIN DAY SPECIAL

Timid Is the Ogrin
By Anjie

Golden dusted, timid gaze,
From fern fronds does it peer.
Orbs alight with shyest sheen,
A blend of hope and fear.

Trembling in the length of limbs,
The world seems such a place.
Large enough to overwhelm,
A daunting land to face.

Dainty hooves lift one by one,
He paws the dusty ground.
Silent, though, and hidden still,
Won't make a single sound.

Lowered head, his form displayed,
The silken tufts of ears.
Alert, alarmed and listening out,
For sudden sounds he hears.

Idle gait, he shuffles forth,
That gaze shall glance around.
Studying the greater world,
The realm that doth surround.

Bravery is called for here,
He takes a timid leap
Across the tree he hid behind
And clears it with one sweep.

Stunned! The view that greets his gaze,
A herd shaped just like he!
Ogrin friends are grazing here,
Together and so free.

Shall he dare approach the group?
He stands alone, absurd.
The group does glance, a smile shines,
A welcome to the herd.

Ogrin Day in Winter
By Lynx_child

With a snort, a stumble, and a cough,
The Ogrin sneezes away the snow.
He shivers and peers through crooked branches,
Straining his eyes in the pale sunlight glow.
There is a nest tucked high above him,
Abandoned for winter, small twigs
twisted and left alone.
Behind him is his house with a warm fire,
But the small bird's nest seems more like home.
A crisp winter day, and he continues
through the woods,
Back at the house are chocolate,
blankets, and books.
He shivers again -- it's cold in the winter forest.
He steps delicately through the snowy paths
and the frosted brooks.
"Today is my day," he says to himself.
"They're looking for me to celebrate, I know.
But it's my day, and this is what I want to do --
Study the beauty of the world in the snow."

An Ogrin from the Bushes
By Poke_pika

A head pokes up from a shaded bush,
a large, bristled mane, with a fluffy look.

The ears are large and furry as well,
The eyes look about, with curiosity swelled.

They see others, all holding gifts,
A smile spreads wide -- a giggling fit.

Its striped short body launches from the bush,
giving all the others a startled look.

This day is upon us, celebrated by all,
Everybody, near and far,

For on this day, a new Neopet arrived,
The Ogrin, of course! We love it -- and why?

Its bushy mane, its endearing eyes,
the fluffy tail,
Oh, what a time!

The Ogrin is celebrated, near and far,
Celebrated by all.

An Ogrin's Dream
By Togepi_forever

I wasn't meant to fly;
This I must believe.
No matter how I wish for them,
Wings were not meant for me.

I long to be a faerie
Who floats along on high.
Or a Pteri in a treetop home,
Letting out a piercing cry.

An Eyrie soaring in the sky,
Almost past the clouds --
A Uni prancing in the air,
Drawing all the crowds.

Oh, were I to have such wings,
I would be so proud!
But here I stand upon the grass,
With four feet on the ground.

A Korbat whizzes by my head,
A Draik not far behind.
A Shoyru and a Scorchio
Finish up the line.

A Hissi and a Buzz pass by,
Floating on the breeze.
Oh, I wish that beside them
Could be a great winged me!

Oh, what I would give to go
Way up in the sky!
Everyone would gather round,
To see this Ogrin fly!

"The first one of her kind," they'd say.
"So beautiful and rare."
And then I would fly far away,
And leave them standing there.

I'd fly away to Faerieland,
And there I'd make my home.
I'd find a place among the clouds,
A place to call my own.

So if you see me there someday,
Flying with my friends,
Wave to me, and I'll wave back --
For this is not the end.

Crazy Once a Year
By Dragons9rhapsody

"It's Ogrin Day!" my Ogrin cries
As he races through the room.
"Oh no," I groan, "it's here again."
I fear impending doom.

Ogrin are shy, most times, at least,
Except each year on Ogrin Day.
And then mine, at least, is a little beast
And leaps into the fray.

He proclaims himself King of Pets
And swaggers to the news page.
I watch other owners with regret
Whilst their faces swell in rage.

His shyness fades away today,
And he acts so big and proud.
How can I think of what to say,
To tell him he's too loud?

And, of course, we must do everything
That the news says we must do,
For it's Ogrin Day, and he is King.
You do know that, don't you?

I suppose it isn't all to dread.
At least it makes him shine,
But I wonder, at least, in my head...
Does your Ogrin act like mine?
