The Elixer
By 777lehuanani

What twisted and nefarious fiend
Could concoct such a noxious brew,
That would grant one's wishes and desires,
Yet in such great measure as to kill them too?

Who doesn't want money, talent, or love?
Yet no one knows how to achieve his or her dreams.
So a simple potion that would give it all,
Would be a dream-come-true, or so it seems.

For if a sip of this drink you dare,
Your hidden desires are suddenly realized.
Yet as time passed, so the feeling grows
That it was best when your dream was still inside.

For once this liquid enters your veins,
A chain of events starts which cannot be stopped.
It'll just bide its time till it's ready to strike,
And only then the veil on its full plan is dropped.

Your life will be perfect - just like that.
You'll be stronger, richer, and wiser still.
Yet while you gain a most splendid life,
That which could have been happy, now never will.

For your dreams-come-true soon aren't so great,
This splendid lie was not meant to last.
Your own dreams forming the worst nightmare,
This "magic" time will soon be lost in the past.

For dreams, when first realized, are not so wild,
But given time they will grow,
And twist and turn out of proportion,
And when they'll stop, no one can know.

If only you have listened to the voice of reason,
Which at the back of your mind did lurk:
"Magic cannot solve problems overnight,
Success is only achieved through hard work."

Sometimes an ordinary life is best,
Though not the most wondrous or exciting around.
For through overcoming those normal problems,
The simplest, most satisfying joy is found.

The Littlest Princess
By Maharu

Ha! You think you can best me?
You feel you are so strong?
Well, watch closely, little man
For I shall prove you wrong!

The fact that I am royalty...
It doesn't lessen my worth!
And I will demonstrate today,
Strength comes not from birth!

I'm not your average princess
With a painted doll face and hands
And by the time this day is done
They will sing my name across the lands!

You may have the body of a bear,
And a hawk's cunning and grace
But my courage is unmatched
And it is I who will win this race!

So come on, just try and win
Put your life at stake
But you'd better climb quickly
Or breathe the dust left in my wake!

Here and now I stand tall
And with all my heart proclaim!
This is one fighting spirit
Shenkuu's mountains cannot tame!

You can search across the land
And peer as far as your eyes can see
But in the end, all you'll find is
The greatest warrior will be
Me.

The Thief
By Kikiscamps_mom

Slipping silent through the trees,
Pausing for the slightest breeze
I work my way to the secret door,
Hidden within the forest floor.
Beneath a bush the portal I find
(I wonder if I've lost my mind?);
Trembling fingers spring the lock
Above me flies a twittering flock.
Quickly I ease the entrance open
Then slip inside, still hoping
That my passage is unremarked
By the spies she has that work in the dark.
Night sky disappears, earthen tunnel surrounds,
I tread the path without a sound.
Even a Master Thief should fear this quest,
(my heart is about to jump out of my chest!).
Sight in darkness is a rare gift,
It helps me now as I reach the rift.
The narrow bridge creaks as I tread its boards
Then one more room: at last! The hoard!
"What would you do here?" a soft voice queries,
"I-I've gotten lost," I try to parry.
"Not by the mark I see in your eyes--
My sister has sent you after a prize."
Her green eyes flicker with anger and pain,
"Have mercy!" I cry, falling to kneel in shame.
"It's true that I came here on a dark quest,
I took her gift and fear her," I confess.
"So which of my baubles did she send you to take?" "Your-- Orb," I reply as I tremble and shake.
In silence she stares down into my heart.
"A choice I will give you, to stay or depart.
You may leave empty-handed, to face her wrath,
Or stay in My Glade, and walk a new path.
My home needs guardians, clever and strong,
But if you accept you must stay your life long;
Never again may you leave my protection,
For if you do She will not give you affection.
"I thank you, Illusen, for your offer so kind,
But I am a rover, no one place can bind."
"Then stand and leave," she says with some sorrow,
"and know that with the coming morrow
You will not remember the path to this place,"
She touches my forehead with fingers that shake,
Though their green glow remains bright
As it blinds my eyes with swirling light.
I awake the next morn outside her dell;
Watching nervously for creatures fell,
I step out into a self-given quest:
Finding a way, Jhudora to best.
No matter the long years I wander
My heart will still ponder
The mercy Illusen showed to a thief,
Which kindled in my heart a belief
In all things good, and bright,
Inspiring me to give Evil a fight.
No matter how long I live, or dangers I face,
My life will matter, because of Illusen's grace.

A Poem for a Neopets Poem
By Snoopy164000000

My mind is paused, sharpened,
Pen poised in the air
I search through my thoughts; a poem hides there.
A poem of castles, of thrones and of kings,
The soft underside of a dark faerie's wings
It tell me of sunsets and cold, ancient shrines
Of cavernous caves full of trinkets sublime.
Ideas are waking and still more arrive:
A lush, secret rainforest, green and alive
The song of a Xweetok, stood on a hill;
A song to the moonlight - the World stands still...

Gold in the sunrise, black in the night,
The eyes of an Eyrie exultant in flight
Past colours that spatter high up in the sky-
A breathtaking rainbow, captured as dye.

But how to begin now? I try to be steady...
And that's when I realise - it's written already.

Oh Meepit, What Lurks Behind Thine Eyes?
By Kellymn1

Oh Meepit, what lurks behind thine eyes?
Could it be, perhaps,
A wonderful surprise?
Did Sloth send thee to take my Neopoints?
Or zap my pets to mutants?
I sigh in your general direction,
You could be doing so much better things,
You could be gathering Petpetpets,
Or grooming Uni's wings,
Instead you stand before me,
Without writing,
Without speech,
You take a step toward me,
I scream,
"Get away from me, you leech!"
But instead of taking my Neopoints,
Instead of zapping my pets,
You hand me a single Neopoint,
And a note saying "This is my best,"
So you turn around and walk,
In a waddling sort of way,
With a sad sad look in your eyes,
I gently ask you to stay.
