HISSI DAY SPECIAL

Ode to a Hissi
By Panril

This is by far his favourite weather,
When spring approaches summer's edge.
You find him basking 'mongst the leaves
Lurking in the earthen sedge.

Today he lounges 'midst the ferns,
Where he prefers to lie,
Mocking those who soar above
A bright and speckled sky.

Quick and sly, a supple tail
Is curled around his drowsy head.
Though he could have a cushioned throne,
In knotted roots, he makes his bed.

Those who dare disturb his snooze
Are bravest Neopets indeed.
As keen and yellow eye blinks open,
Off with you at utmost speed!

Since the stars align just right,
He does indulge in hide and seek.
In truth, he means no harm at all
But has a seasoned prankster's cheek.

Laughter catches you off guard -
Runs down his warm and shiny skin.
Sleepy again, he flops and mumbles.
A new year does begin.

Hissi Fire-Meet
By Pyrosquirrelx

When the sun sinks low and dusk befalls
And shadows creep in jungle deep
The deep-bronzed tribesmen start their calls.

Slithering, slinking, slipping past
Through island pool and water cool
The Island Hissis flicker fast.

Low cry goes up, and wings are bow'd
Smooth scales to ground, a cease of sound
The sudden silence itself loud.

After seconds tick the flames flash, flare
Sparks go high, and bodies fly
To join the dance with twisting flair.

Such power and glory as dance begins
Majestic coils awash with toils
As figures leap in twirling spins.

The circle goes on from darkened eve
'Round the fire, flaming higher
The patterns snaking in intricate weave.

Golden eyes gleam and feathers brush
Sinuous and slim, lithe and trim
Bodies as they slowly, slowly hush.

Pale markings glow in fading light
Gray dawn peeks in, the fire dim
At the end of the Hissi's glorious rite.

The Hissi Who Could Not Fly
By Mithril_mithrandir

In the forest, green and bright,
A Hissi sits among the leaves,
His scales gleam gold in morning light,
His wings, they flutter in the breeze.

Yellow eyes, they watch the trees,
Bored, searching to do something --
He spies things moving in the breeze,
Something fluttering: his wings.

I have wings, he slowly thought,
And looked up to the sky;
A revelation quickly sought --
If he had wings... then he could fly!

Racing to a field nearby,
The Hissi flapped and spread his wings --
He waited to lift off and fly,
To look down and see so many things.

He waited and waited, waited all day,
Ready to shoot up towards the sky.
But no matter what, on the ground he stayed,
This little Hissi could not fly!

I'll never fly, the Hissi thought,
And in dismay he cried --
All his efforts, now for naught,
Nothing had happened, though he'd tried.

The Hissi stayed upon the ground,
And though other Hissi filled the sky,
Today he is known world wide round,
As the Hissi who could not fly.

To be a Hissi
By Yaya269101

Oh, what I would give, today,
To slither, hither, through the sky,
To feel the wind across my scales,
To pass all earthly troubles by!

To be a Hissi, smooth and sleek,
To slink on, through the air,
To taste the clouds with my forked tongue,
And fly, without a care!

Instead, I'm stuck here, on the ground,
With a crick in my neck
From staring up at Hissi, high,
On some great aerial trek.

They bend and soar and dip and swing,
And wriggle their agile tails.
They spread their dainty, leath'ry wings,
And flap, when all else fails.

Oh, when I see a Hissi, there,
With a glint in his reptilian eye,
I grin and laugh and wave to him,
But, deep inside, I cry.

For I would like to be a Hissi,
High above land and sea,
Careening o'er the mountaintops
And flying in tranquility.

Oh, what I'd give to be a Hissi
With the sky as my playground,
Instead, all I can do is wish;
Soon, I'll not be earthbound.

The Hissi of Ice
By Anjie

Frosted coils slowly shift,
Emitting icy mist.
Serpent creature slithers slow,
His form doth writhe and twist.
Hissi born of arctic gloss,
So glacial, so cold.
Sinuous now as he moves,
His long form shall unfold.

Behold the tones of bleak cobalt,
The chill of icen white.
Glossed with tones like fallen snow,
Awash with frozen light.
Within the peaks of mountains high,
Some venture, if they're brave.
To seek the Hissi made of Ice,
Aloft in snowy cave.

Like a spiral, Hissi moves,
His glistening form doth shine.
Around the hills of drifting snow,
Those heavy coils entwine.
Lidless gaze shall flicker fast,
And slowly search around.
Embracing winter's friendly chill,
Upon the frozen ground.

Rapid flicker, tongues emerged,
The Hissi bows his head.
In Terror Mountain's hidden paths,
He'll slowly snake and thread.
Serpentine, with regal grace,
His motions slow, concise.
Vanished into snowdrift's hold,
The Hissi formed from ice.
