The Art Of The Grilled Ummagine Slushie

A knife held by a practiced hand
Danced far too easily
Around the stem of the Ummagine
And pulled the scoundrel free.

The knife did take it for its own.
The stem lay, cast aside.
The victim was too vain to ooze
Its wounded flesh with pride.

Nonetheless, the fruit was soothed
And watered lavishly
With loving scrubs and tender paws,
Creating a glossy sheen.

Parched and hungry, only finding dirt.
Beneath the sands, the Ruki knows,
The quenching Ummagines grow.

The Ruki claws around the plant's stem
And begins digging to reach the end:
At the bottom of the root
Nestles a luscious fruit.

The excavated hole widens, deepens,
The texture of the sand thickens.
The Ruki's hands finally unearth
An Ummagine the digging was worth:
Palatinate skin, a juicy feeling.
The Ruki irresistibly starts eating.
The Ummagine juice drips down his face.
Every bite is a sweet embrace.

Blistering in high noon’s heat,
in search of purple prize.
Sun sits high, bakes the earth,
sweltering desert skies.

Trusty shovel strikes the ground, 
excavates hot sand.
Long endeavour for the root:
the best in all the land!

Will I prepare Ummagine Tea?
So fresh, with purple tint.
Or bake it into lilac cake
With a tiny touch of mint?

I search beyond the pyramids
and behind Coltzan’s Shrine.
The sun begins its slow descent.
I pledge to make you mine.

Daunting moon climbs in the sky
and temperature sinks.
Sand unearthed in circles around,
Eyes filled with sleepy blinks.

With a shiver, I decide
that my work is spent.
With anger I try one last plunge,
sand forms deep indent.

Then my shovel bounces back,
excited hands do dig. 
They close around sweet Ummagine,
and I eat it like a pig.

Fizzy Ummagine Potion
