DRAIK DAY SPECIAL

The Draik Hatchling
by Sordid

Within the folds of Meridell,
Where emerald fields do sprawl.
A realm awaits, a secret place,
Where sunlight doth not fall.
There a woven, tawny nest,
Atop a pillar strong.
Here the eggs that all do seek,
Do rest, here they belong.

Atop the woven strands of wood,
Sits sphere of crimson red.
A moment’s pause, a single sound,
Then slowly do cracks spread.
They shimmer down the shape of egg,
From peak where they do start.
Until the structure ruptures firm,
And gently splits apart.

There within a creature small,
So slight it seems, so frail.
The first peek just the stretch of red,
The hint of crimson scale.
Forth comes claw, a single shape,
In fading light, it gleams.
Then slinking gently from the egg,
The Draik hatchling soon streams.

He creeps forth on uncertain limbs,
To greet the world around.
A tiny roar the Draik emits,
A squeaking, squealing sound.
He reaches edge of high-set nest,
The breeze up here so light.
A span of wings, the Draik steps forth,
To take that first sweet flight.

The Creation of a Draik
by Saqo

That oh so very coveted item,
more than morphing potions or Neggs
in red, blue, yellow, or green,
the much desired: Draik egg.

By luck or by chance or by
trading a fair share of wealth
you can obtain one of these eggs
to get a Draik for yourself.

Take your egg, ever so carefully
through Neopia until you reach
the Draik Nest, as Draiks are
hatched in this magical place.

Place your egg upon the nest,
now hold your breath and wait.
You'll hear a tiny chirp, as
the egg gives way to a new Draik.

From the egg as it breaks apart,
your Draik will slowly rise
and look at its world for the
first time with large, curious eyes.

Once you name your Draik, you're
free to take it home with you.
You'll now be the envy of your
whole Neopian neighbourhood.

For Draiks are quite rare and you
are certainly lucky to now own
one yourself. If you don't yet, you
can get one as we have shown!

So here's to Draiks on this day, their
special day. Let us celebrate
this rare and special species,
"Happy Draik Day!" we say, elated.

A Special Draik Day for Miles
by Chavo_guerrero

Deep within Neopia,
In Brightvale's rolling hills,
There lives a Draik of genius,
Who has trouble paying bills.

Such sparkling intelligence,
In a Draik so young,
He is a great inventor,
Although he goes unsung.

His proudest of achievements,
Is the knowledge wheel we spin,
And the Draik that stands beside it,
If you haven't guessed is him!

All the profits from this venture,
Belong to the Brightvale king,
And poor Miles, he sees none of it,
Though he created the thing!

But he doesn't let it get him down,
He still smiles sure and strong,
Don't you agree that he deserves more?
To ignore poor Miles is wrong!

So here on this wonderful Draik Day,
When we go to the wheel to spin,
No matter what the outcome,
Whether we manage to lose or to win.

Let's give a hug to the Draik that made it,
A "Congrats!" or a slap on the back!
Perhaps we should throw him a party,
Or bring him some gifts in a sack?

For Miles is most underrated,
And on Draik Day I think this should stop,
For this wonderfully clever inventor,
Of Draiks should be right at the top!

Rowann The Woodland Draik
by Aldurswolf

Rowann is a woodland Draik.
Though not the nicest lady,
She tries not to draw attention,
But this does make her shady.

Each day she ventures out,
From the cave in which she lives.
She gathers berries, roots, and leaves,
And does what she must to survive.

Rumors swirl out about her,
In small villages and towns.
They say if you go to the forest,
That Rowann will hunt you down.

No one quite knows the truth,
Nor is anyone brave enough to seek it.
So most stay away from the forest,
And the eerie aura it emits.

So if you dare, go seek her.
She’ll be deep back in the thicket.
And then you can tell us whether or not,
You survived your visit.

I Want A Faerie Draik!
by Clockworkchildren

I want to own a Draik so badly,
I save and save and save,
But not just any Draik, I might add,
The pretty winged sort is my bag.

I want to own a Draik so badly,
I slave and slave and slave,
Playing games and restocking,
Most to no avail,
Since at sniping and such sort,
Compared to others, I fail!

I want to own a Draik so badly,
Everyday you hear a story,
Of Dr. Sloth just handing them out,
Trust me, when I check my bank balance,
I just want to shout --
I want to own a Draik!

My apologies for this haphazard poem,
To which no answer I shall gain,
For one day the bank manager will tell me,
"Yes, young Neopian, your saving has paid off!
A Draik you can now afford."
But until that day ignore me here,
In my agonies, muttering like a loon...
I want to own a Draik!

Majestic Draik
by Moulinrouge21

Sweltering heat, sun beating down,
Desert Draik majestic with his elegant crown.
Azure blue eyes sparkling bright,
Inspiring awe from such a beautiful sight.

Dripping in jewels, rubies, and gold,
King of creation, in the stories he told.
Controller of the sands and how it blows,
Watching his land grow, and how time flows.

Spreading his wings while staring to fly,
Soaring above in the cloudless sky.
Power in his hands, master of the land,
Visiting his palace, so very grand.

Rich in history, knowledge, and wealth,
Always protected with the guards in stealth.
The desert Draik, a magnificent king,
People stop to listen when he starts to sing.

The Hatching
by Sylviau

An endless darkness stretches outwards,
Unbroken for centuries but for a
Single ray of pure shimmering sunlight, reaching
Like a gentle hand to comfort, embrace,
The fragile creature not yet born.

Shadows dance between the stalagtites, in silent
Celebtration as the delicate shell cracks --
A soft snout emerges.

Thorny stone cradles the rock
Upon which new hope is founded,
An ancient lineage survives through the creature
That now opens its milky eyes and takes
Its first breath into the world.

An ancient spirit rejoices,
For in the Draik Nest --
There is life.

The Draik Sentinel
by Kuroge

His red eyes drooping
his body without vigor,
standing without spirit
his soul full of blisters.

Watching Meridell
from dawn to dusk,
his given duty long
gone with the dust.

His memories are fading
for what was he created?
To be an eternal guardian
perhaps he was fated.

The light is vanishing
but to him only a blur,
another day gone by
without a single stir.

Escape from Meridell Castle
by __cows_r_cool__

The castle, once proud,
Hath wrought its dimming shroud,
And erased the sky of stars.
Below, with dirt and dust,
He sits, chained, unjust,
Behind the dungeon's bars.

Valrigard, brave and true,
Blamed for what he did not do,
Against his loyal nature.
Though he loved Meridell,
He was locked in this cell,
And branded forever a traitor.

A misbegotten crime,
But he bided his time,
And sought for a plan to employ.
When the guard peered in,
To his own chagrin,
He found but a dummy decoy.

Now out of the jail,
By the skin of his tail,
Valrigard took a sword from the shelf,
With a hope in his heart,
He began to chart
An escape from the castle itself.

But up from the ground,
An alarm hath been sound,
Echoing into the night.
Yet the fear he ignored,
And he took up his sword;
Valrigard knew he must fight.

Upward he rose,
And broke through his foes,
Till his dark eyes spotted the sun.
And he flew through the dawn,
'Round hither and yon,
For his freedom was finally won.

A Draik Day Wish
by Lt_d_wolf

Draiks are special creatures,
proud and strong and brave.
And yet, for all their wonders,
one little Draik could not behave.

Although his scales gleamed like diamonds,
and with wings that could make you swoon,
as for being chivalrous,
he clearly wasn't in the mood.

He'd snap and bite and roll around,
snarl and roar and spit.
Clearly he was just upset
that Draiks could not be colored 8-bit!

A Commentary On Neopet Trading
by Laurapet131

"Draik Day is coming," the little Draik mused,
"So I really must do something nice!
But what can I do that is sure to dazzle,
To intrigue, to shock, to entice?"

He thought for a while, brainstormed a bit,
Had many ideas to consider;
But the idea he liked the best, to be sure,
Was one that makes users most bitter!

He wanted to write a poem of sorts,
But not a normal poet was he!
A commentary on Neopet trading was
The idea that was meant to be.

"Everybody has an opinion," he wrote,
"And shouts till they're blue in the face.
But nobody asks the Neopets what they think!
That really should not be the case!

The only side out there is what users think,
That we're so sad to lose our home,
But truthfully, that's not right at all!"
He wrote, inscribing his growing tome.

"I LIKE being traded! It makes me feel good!
I feel special and wanted and great.
And if, along the way, I find a good home?
Well, that’s just icing on the cake.

So, trade away, users of Neopets.
You won't get any protests from me.
I like being called Very Well Named,
As you can clearly see.

And as for those Neopets who aren't so good—
The VBNs and the blues, reds, and yellows—
I'm sure they'll find a better place, too,
Just like all of their fellows.

Maybe they have a different opinion, it's true,
But personally, I think I'm right.
So on this Draik Day, look at your Neopet...
Would you rather have one in white?"

My Draik Egg
by Ladygaladriel213

The gleaming surface spits fire
It shimmers in the light like a sapphire.

A seemingly phosphorescent orb.
All the light it seems to absorb.

Nestled in a leafy bed,
Coddled in my knowing arms.
I shall see it safe and sound,
It will never know of harm.

Gently caressing the smooth surface,
Hard and glossy like a smooth gemstone.
As the dim light flickers around me
The surface changes to a darker tone.

Specks of glitter seem to sparkle on it,
Sending up shimmers of prism showers.
How can this simple object hold
So much grace and so much power?

Perfection seems to hold it together.
But magic seems to trace lines all around.
I touch it now in hesitancy
Not many of these are to be found!

For what I love so painstakingly
Is not an item for which I would wheedle or beg.
But something I earned rightly myself
A bright Blue Draik Egg!

Yes! Yes! Indeed, it's true!
It glows and glimmers like a pearlescent moon!
And it feels the love it will always have
So I know that it must hatch soon!

Lofty dreams, and far-flung thoughts
Lead this new Draik into life and on its way.
So I thought I'd take a moment
To open wide my heart and say:
"Happy Draik Day!"

Feast of the Draik
by 6thedition

Welcome, O Neopians, to the feast of the Draik
Pull up a chair and smell your Draik Steak
Fold wings of all colours and dive in the lake
Welcome, O Neopians to the feast of the Draik!

All of Neopia's creatures join and enjoy
Boatloads of pirates come yelling ahoy!
From the castles drift royal girl and boy
All of Neopia's creatures join and enjoy!

Enter, O owners, O masters, and friends!
Or you could take your time, it all depends
On if you want Draik cake before it ends
So enter, dear owners, masters and friends!

Welcome, O Neopians, to the feast of the Draik
Listen to the tales; good stories they make
Valrigard is here for pictures to take!
Welcome, O Neopians, to the feast of the Draik!

Keep waiting, dear eggs, rustling in the nest!
Your day of celebration is abreast,
All of Neopia is here in their best!
Keep waiting, dear eggs, rustling in the nest!

Rejoice, friendly Draiks! Your day is now here!
Let your eggs crack and wings soar without fear
Go wild! After all, it’s only once a year.
Rejoice, friendly Draiks! Your day is now here!

Chocolate Draik's Sweet Look
by Tealnova_dragon

With wings of waffles,
And head of cream,
They give you that look
With these great big chocolate eyes,
Beseechingly.

Slowly, you lower your hand.
And stare at the ice cream cone in your hand.
It drips with chocolate.

The Draik rears back, approvingly.
You turn back to your cone... yum!

"Don't eat it!"
Misunderstandings.

"Pretty please with a cherry on top?"
You stare. Away from those swirling eyes,
Up to the crown of cream-
To the cherry on top.

Yum.
Nothing stops you this time
From eating your cone.

Brightvale Glaziers Shopkeeper
by Jokerless

You arrive to find
Windows and panes
No two are the same
Not a single one plain

The colors and hues!
Paint the stained glass
To form a scene picturesque
Like an artist's canvass

Small for a Draik
He's blue and winged
To him we owe the creation
Of these wonderful things

He pounds away
At a strip of metal
Flaming on top of an anvil
Seeming unsettled

A thank you
Might seem fair
As it's evident
His work is to share

Next time I meet him
I'll be sure to give him a tip
For these works of art
Are surely worth it
