To Be Oneself
By Winterscars

A silent shadow slithers through the air,
Purple scales and sickly spots hidden.
This world is something he cannot bear.
Bitterness rises in him, unbidden.
What has become of the once-proud serpent?
Gone is the courage once flying with him;
Now, he seeks a resting place to repent.
No horrible deeds done, but hope is dim.
Gone is the world he once knew so well,
Replaced by a replica he so hates.
But he bears his curse, his tale to sell,
So that he may one day slip through gates
Of redemption. Of reality at last
So that he may forget his sordid past.

The Hissi flies, as transparent as a ghost,
But coloured in the taint of the Citadel.
He seeks not to draw attention, not to boast,
Not even to curse enemy Meridell.
No, he seeks only to hide his tale,
Only to dream in familiar darkness.
His past is no longer for sale.
You may feel free to call him heartless,
But the Hissi has found his solution
In his flight. And he smiles to himself,
Content in his insane resolution.
For the answer is not found on a bookshelf --

But within him, as, though unreal is he,
There is no one he would rather be.

Venture
By Dianacat777

The treeline stands before me,
A wraithlike wall of sable shade.
Such promises that lurk beyond the veil
Behind this world I know,
That I have touched and felt,
And yet always wandered and felt
That within its comforting hold
I remained so strangely unfulfilled.

Tales of princes and kingdoms old
In lands exotic and far
Held my mind in their glittering vibrancy.
Adventures grand and heroes bold
Were nowhere to be found
In this place that I knew.

This border warns of threats as well,
Of monsters with razor fangs
That lurk beneath the bed
And cannot be cast askance
By the nightlight's welcome glow.

The eerie melody calls,
Whispers of adventures and treasures
Nestled in dark caverns and shady copses,
Glittering under the faintest moonlight
Where legends are nurtured
And stories spin themselves
Delicate as Spyder silk.

I linger on the precipice
Between fear and vast unknown,
And steel myself as I plunge in,
Because there was never a hero without a risk.

Sucked Into the Woods
By Ladygaladriel213

An inky pool of light,
Do you think the dawn can get in?
Can it crack the film of night?
Or escape once again?

Tread softly lest they hear you,
Disturb them and face your fear.
No one lives to say what they do,
But it's enough the tales you hear!

Wise words are oft spoken,
In hushed and reverent tones.
To tickling sunshine you'll never be woken,
More like an old tree's moans.

Spindly fingers to grab your heart,
Branches that cackle in the wind.
Terror from which you never shall part,
The sky will laugh and the moon will grin.

Darkness looms around you,
It sucks and swirls like the ocean.
You'll long for sapphire skies of blue,
And all your wrongs you shall rescind.

But nothing can now redeem you,
You are lost in the depths of the black.
Gossamer webs deceive the truth,
Through dewy sticky strands that attack.

You feel deprived of all,
You feel the loss of your goods.
What did you expect from the ghosts' call?
When you entered the Haunted Woods?

Remember that once inside,
It is hard to ever get out.
Gone is all your hope and pride,
Instead you face the spectre of doubt.

Shadows dance before you,
Though there is no light to cast them.
This day you shall forever rue,
From all this darkness your fear will stem.

Forever trapped in a world of night,
Forever given in to fright.
Forever forgetful of the light.
Forever is your dreary plight.

Welcome to the Haunted Woods!
Escape is futile, so settle in.
Welcome to the Haunted Woods!
You'll never get to leave again.

Storytelling #506
By Agedbeauty

STC 506

the end is
the beginning
so where did it really start?

dear reader
take a deep breath
dive into the pool of time

the story
has its own path
for each author to wander

a kacheek
once but no more
a child once but no more

one villain
now two villains
one villain, but two voices

a monster
a wocky fights
the friend now named enemy

so time flows
no, time ripples
backward, forward, now again

vician dies
no, nixila dies
did they ever really live?

is like no other story
