HISSI DAY SPECIAL

Wouldn't You Like to Be a Hissi?
By Concertogreat_8

wouldn't you like
to be a Hissi?
have scales like diamonds
hammered in all hues
refracting the light
and reflecting it, too.

if you were a Hissi,
you could have a
razor ribbon tongue
forked like lightning
and painted poppy-red.

as a creature called a Hissi,
you would have sharp senses
of smell and taste
to catch a scent of Miamouse
sweet and warm and terrified.

should you become
a Hissi someday,
you would have wings
small and fragile
like wet paper sheets
edged in fringed feathers.

if you became a Hissi,
you would be just like me,
so you could join me here
in my lovely cave
and we could be friends,
the very best of friends,
forever just us together.

tell me, wouldn't you
like to be a Hissi now?

The Red & Gold Hissi of Shenkuu
By Howiesgrl_24

In Shenkuu the celebration looms
like the airships of the mountains.
Confetti falls like cherry blossoms, bloomed,
around the elegantly decorated fountain.

Reds that signify the city's glory
and golds as vibrant as the sun
tell the great and ancient story
of the beloved Hissi, Li-Hun.

He was a warrior with ambition,
but for that he is not famous.
It was his gentle disposition
that made his name so ageless.

With Cobrall Root and Lotus Leaves
Li-Hun helped and Li-Hun healed.
His red and gold embroidered greaves,
forgotten with the sword he chose to wield.

Healing became his work of choice,
Talon Root a trusted remedy.
Those he saved today rejoice
and so we join them presently.

For now each year there is a day
in the month of Hunting,
where Shenkuu's people gather to say
a thank you, loud and thundering.

They wear Li-Hun's red and gold,
and thank him for his service,
So learn his cheer, yell it bold.
Take a big deep breath and on the count of three...

"Hiiisssss!"

The Maraquan Hissi
By Elly042

I start from up on Shenkuu,
When the sun begins to rise.
As I slither down the waterfall,
It shines right in my eyes.

But there is not the place for me,
On rocks and hills up high.
I seek somewhere that's dark and cool
As it reflects the sky.

With a splash, the ocean
Welcomes me right in
And I enjoy the liquid chill,
As I begin to swim.

My fins cut through the water,
But I'm well hidden from view,
Disguised from any searchers,
With my tones of emerald and blue.

From up above, looking down,
I'm a shadow, nothing more.
And I blend right in with the sky,
If watched from the ocean floor.

Chances are you'll miss me,
If you're paddling by the beach,
So I'd advise you to be careful
Or a lesson I will teach!

I am usually quite friendly,
So do not care or fret.
As long as you don't stand on me,
You'll have nothing to regret!

Two-Headed Hissi
By Jjquil

Deep in the bog lives a twin-headed serpent
Whose skillful tongues weave puzzles wise;
One head always tells the truth,
And the other? Nothing but lies.

"Listen not to my dear brother,
A spinner of tales, a deceiver!
His words will mislead you, he is the liar;
But he will make you a believer!"

"Oh, listen to that swindler sing!
Surely you don't trust his slander?
For he is the teller of mistruths and fibs
And I, an innocent bystander!"

"That charlatan thinks he can fool you!
Can't you tell that I am sincere?
I'm the reliable one, just trust me,
I'm trying to help you out here!"

"That no-good maligner is faking.
I can prove it; I wouldn't lie to you.
Just ask us a question and listen to me,
You'll soon know whose story is true!"

And so the two heads will bicker and squabble;
Only logic can unravel this fight.
By now, do you know the trick to this trap?
Can you tell which Hissi is right?

What Goes Bump in the Night
By Magicalcameron

His wings a-twinkle with ancient metal shielding,
An ancient headdress upon his head;
His ghostly form a relic of the past.
The mysteries of the past.

Creeping slowly through the cobwebbed paths,
vines a-stretch throughout
you slip past a number of traps.

Closer and closer you come,
The door is so very near.
You continue moving; hope of vast golden delights,
So pressing, so desirable.

Out of the darkness
This beast takes flight,
On fragmenting ghostly wings
To alight in front of you.
His eyes gleam the red of blood,
the Hissi's breath disgustingly rank.

You stand still, petrified by fear and greed;
You believe you are safe from his eyes and teeth.
He turns his head from side to side;
A beast searching for his quarry.

You move.
Greed consuming like flame to wick.
A growl rips through the air
Cutlass through butter.
You run,
He follows.
Run, run, run!

To safety you flee,
And only stop when you see the ruins in the distance.
His breath's smell lingers, fused to your clothing,
Sinewing your fears.

You rest, your greed boiled down to pride;
the shadows bring you no comfort,
the darkness of night bring nothing but panic.
The bellowing roar still ringing in your ears.

The Shadow Hissi
By Kitokat_mh

Deep in the darkest night,
When you think you're all alone,
You are sure you're being watched,
And let out a silent groan.

You strain your ears and listen out,
Hoping to not hear a sound,
Terrified of some movement
Of slithering along the ground.

You listen but don't hear a thing,
Your heart beats hard inside your chest,
Nothing is there, it would seem,
Your breathing now begins to rest.

But then you hear a soft 'hisssss,'
Causing you to sit upright,
As you know that somewhere close,
A demon's lurking in the night.

You jump up and scan the room,
Turning around, scared and slow,
When you think you spot the beast
Staring at you, eyes aglow.

Your heart sinks as it's confirmed,
You see a grin of gleaming white,
Teeth so sharp it chills your bones,
Wings so dark and eyes so bright.

You now know that all is lost,
And there is nothing you can do,
For there is truly no escape,
When the shadow Hissi has found you.

The Transfer Hissi's View
By Macana

The gates open on a pet and owner;
Without a word, I meet their startled gaze.
The pet hesitates, frightened by my shell;
I see he wants to run, but he still stays.

"I want to transfer him," the owner says.
"NAME? WHO TO?" I ask in a metallic voice.
I get both answers, and the owner goes.
Her pet stays with me, not given a choice.

Awkwardly he sits down quite close to me.
Quietly, his new owner he awaits.
Sometimes, I catch him glancing up at me;
He pretends he was looking at the gates.

I open my mouth to break the silence,
But close it before I utter a word.
There is nothing good I can say to him.
It is better that I remain unheard.

So we sit forever in awkward silence,
Only looking at each other from the side.
I wish I could get to know him somehow,
That I could breach our unseen divide.

His new owner arrives and takes him.
Out of habit, they both nod me goodbye.
I'm merely the Transfer Hissi to them;
I left nothing to remember me by.

But I smile to myself as I watch them
Chatting to each other in raw delight.
Even if I do not get recognised,
I will keep doing my job for this sight.

Hissi Alphabet
By Phadalusfish

Browsing the bookshop,
One sunny afternoon,
I stumbled upon something
Quite strange:

Hissi Alphabet Said the cover.

Being a Hissi and all that,
I investigated
The odd claim of this book,
That Hissi HAVE an alphabet.

(I mean, we do,
But it's the same one
That everyone else
In all of Neopia uses.)

I opened the book
Only to hear the
Nimmo shopkeeper cry out,
"You haven't paid for that!"

And so I did.
A whole 389 Neopoints,
The "estimated value"
Of
Hissi Alphabet.

I opened the book again,
And so learned also
What
Hissi Secrets
Must contain:

Inside was the alphabet,
Each letter shaped
By one of my kind.

Finned
By _Razcalz_

The deeps are like
a puzzle to me --

Each day I meet a new piece,
a sliver of the story
that is the grandeur of the
sea --
who knew conches
came in hues like these, dipped
in sunset and painted
to capture the eventide,
or that the
tallest of kelp
reach so ambitiously
one thinks they must be
soft ladders lowered
beguilingly from the surface;
and you'd never believe it
until you
saw for yourself.

The picture so vast,
and surely the mighty depths
would never yield
all her secrets to a Hissi finned
or any --
but for just one new
drop of her mystique
I'll journey on.

An Encounter in the Haunted Woods
By Mamasimios

While walking through the Haunted Woods
You refuse to admit your fear;
You dismiss the disembodied eyes,
The strange sounds that reach your ears.

The slightest rustling of the leaves
In the canopy above your head
Turns your blood to frigid ice;
Your knees knock with doubt and dread.

And yet somehow you carry on,
Your gaze fixed upon the path,
You clench your fists with renewed resolve,
Single-minded in your task.

A sibilance now fills the void,
Overwhelming all other sounds.
The drone becomes a heavy weight
That forces you to the ground.

What light had managed to penetrate
Through the branches, thick and gnarled,
Is now extinguished by the outstretched wings
That descend upon you to ensnarl.

The flesh is surprisingly cool and dry
As it brushes past your cheek.
You hear the words, "Tag, you're it,
You've lost at Hissi Hide and Seek."

The Phantom Creature
By Anjie

Slithered through the ebony,
Held by the pallid light.
On it moved, the serpent form,
Uncoiling in the night.
Louder grows the noise so faint,
Dark shadows hold the sound.
Winding through the Neohome,
Evil doth dwell around.

Phantom creature, never seen,
Under the beam of day.
Toward the night doth he emerge,
Out of the dark, to play.
Undulating, coils shift,
Rare sight, for form grows dim.
Faintly glowing, acid green,
And forth do vapours swim.

Coils do unravel now,
Each shifts as beast doth wake.
Serpent phantom slides through night,
None cross him, big mistake!
Each scale lit, unearthly glow,
A strange, unnatural sheen.
Rare a Hissi found like this,
Phantoms, so seldom seen.

Each motion is a silent threat,
Each hiss instills such fear.
Too little known of this ghost,
And none would dare get near.
So silent and alone he drifts,
A spectre, crimson sight.
No creature would dare meet that gaze,
Dark, dreadful, molten light.

Some claim the phantom is a myth,
Claim ghosts are just not real.
A fallacy for those who fear,
Real terror, claims conceal.
Evening brings the Hissi forth,
He'll haunt 'til light doth spring.
I warn you now, my bravest friends,
Mind what the night might bring!

Kastraliss, Darigan Hissi
By Agedbeauty

Breath of disease and frightening eyes,
Kastraliss of Meridell tells no lies.
In fact, this Hissi never speaks,
But spews out moans and eerie shrieks.

In aeons past he fought in Altador,
But lost, was vanquished, ever more
To spread ill plagues in tiny Bogshot
And leave the villa's residents distraught.

There he spread his loathed woes
Until two brave heroes did dispose
Of Kastraliss, Darigan Hissi fiend,
And thus forgotten, dastardly acts demeaned.

Banished to unlikely place,
Kastraliss cannot show his face.
Eternally, the Hissi drowsed
Until by tiny statue he was roused.

Tiny, green, and unassuming,
His little token yet was looming.
Now Defenders fast were needed,
Lest his horrific past go unheeded.

Brave Defenders came to fight
This wretched wyrm, his breath a blight.
Fought hard against his wayward might,
And forced Kastraliss into flight.

Defeated, gone, lost once more,
Kastraliss rests in myth and lore.
Remembered only by this verse,
His legend slowly does disperse.

A Faerie Hissi: Skychild
By Guddi6

Alight are skies with searing light;
Dawn awakens, slow,
Fierce are hues of renewed might,
Blinding, sharp, they flow.
Crystal blue are silent skies,
The clouds, they shift and skim,
And below where seawaters wash ashore,
Cerulean and azure meet at horizon's brim.

Child of air doth greet the skies,
With loop and swerve, she glides,
So easily, meanders past,
The endless curtain -- she flies
Regal blue doth rule the skies
A flash to casual eye,
Brilliant feathers, stretched aloft,
Strong, her bonds with sky.

Glimmering light plays upon her wings,
Which, decked in delicate shades,
Bring lightest and deepest blues, purples, and pinks
To her elegant facade.
Strong and confident, the wingbeats come,
And happiness shines in eyes,
For this is where she holds her own --
Forever a skychild.

The Malicious Shadow Hissi
By Moulinrouge21

Through the foliage, the shadow Hissi slides,
No noise does it make, so easily it does glide,
Hidden so well, apart from glowing eyes,
And only a quickening moan, as the prey doth cry.

Awake when all do sleep, slithering alone,
The creature infamous, and yet still unknown.
Windows shut and doors lock as he makes his way,
Waiting for passers-by, patiently he lays.

His long dark body, undulating through,
So camouflaged and secret, leaving no clue.
Tongue tastes the air, tasting for life,
His body full of anger, wanting to strife.

Neopians know he's watching, dormant again,
His eyes upon us all, as they weakly defend.
Weapons cannot stop him, quickly he goes,
Slipping through the cracks, his body flows.

Malicious his intentions, hunger takes his mind,
Living in the woods, food he must find.
Strong ambitious ways, natural survival instinct,
Cunning the Hissi is, vanished in one blink.

Beware of yourself, if you do go wander,
Don't stay around too long, do not ponder,
For it may be your last, your last living thought,
For the shadow Hissi wins, and you will be caught.

Ghost Hissi
By Autotune

when was I reduced
to this?
a damp draught
in a musty cave,
an imperceptible chill,
a slightly translucent
patch of air --
when did I shed flesh
and bone and blood
for this -- existence
without existing,
living through life
a deep dark dream,
never to awaken?
and yet from sleep I did rise,
long enough ago
that I've forgotten when
I became the nightmare.

when did my colours
seep away?
did they fade away in time
or did this darkness claim them?
did they leave me,
did I lose them --
upon a damp draught,
upon the filthy waters
of this musty cave?
long enough
in my darkness I have slept;
and I lived long enough ago
that I've forgotten when
I began --
only that the sun must have died
long ago.

when did this musty cave
become my home
and when did my home
become my world --
a world
dark and ugly, a world
light had forsaken
long ago --
a world left to rot on its own?
who abandoned me
long ago,
and who left my dreams to be forgotten?
the waters here are filthy,
and yet I can still imagine
rainbows running through them --
and I need no other skies.

Charmed
By Beagums

I live in a basket alone in the dark,
You'll never find me on a bench in the park.
I like it in here; it's peaceful, you see,
No worries of coconuts falling from trees.

My basket is wicker and rough to the touch;
I do have some space here, but I haven't got much.
Who wouldn't like such a cozy domain?
Minus the occasional lower back pain...

Then one day my ear caught a delicate sound,
A solitary note did my basket surround.
What makes such a sound; oh, what could it be?
I have to lift out of my basket to see...

No! Not a chance, I'll stay here where it's safe,
Inside my basket, free from troubles and strife.
I like it in here; it's peaceful, you see,
No worries of coconuts falling from trees.

But, oh, how my body had a different wish,
Swinging and swaying like some sort of fish.
I had to get out there; I just had to see,
Then off popped the lid that set myself free.

A flute! Just a flute, oh glorious day!
Oh, such an instrument I must learn to play.
Young JubJub who played jumped up with a shout,
"You're not a Cobrall, get out! Out! Out! Out!"

Panic set in as I slithered down the street,
How can a Hissi live out here with no feet?
Sure, the sun is quite nice, but dark is nice too,
To think this trouble came from an oversized kazoo!

Just when I'd given up all of my hope,
My eyes found a shell no bigger than soap.
All along the beach they glittered and gleamed,
Some were quite common, and some rare it seemed.

Is this what I've been missing alone all these years?
Were there other sorts of shell collect-eers?
I like it out here; it's peaceful, you see,
And okay, I still worry about coconut trees.

Vanity
By Tiptoeboo

Look deep within my lidless eyes,
Behold the twice glittering jewels,
One emerald, a sapphire blue --
This icy gaze that fast cools.

Gleaming with a polished sheen,
My scales, deadly shields of pearl,
Scatter patterns of dancing light
On walls, where they twist and twirl.

Claws glimmer in the snow cave light
Each tapering to hair-fine point.
Coloured scarlet red they warn
Of the poison bright anoint.

Soft and hard contrast my wings
With down feathers white and pure.
Of innocence they slyly pretend,
And with flutter beat they allure.

Moving with a slithering gait,
Dressed warm in rich ruby robe,
Surely I am most beautiful
Of all the pets living on this globe.

Mutant Hissi's Song Of Joy
By Opentaniec

There was a time when I was lost in the crowd.
Nothing fancy outside, which would speak out loud.
Breaking from the mundane chorus with a scream,
I couldn't dare to try it, but that was just me.

One stormy night (or was it really sunshine?),
I took a sip of potion and stepped out of the line.
I suddenly felt bold and opened my eyes.
They reflected myself to my great surprise.

One heart, two heads -- packed with a million ideas.
When I try to grab them all it gives me nausea!
I don't need a mirror, but it still hangs on the wall
to say the truth: who's the fairest mutant of all.

Sometimes I may mix things up, I confess
I say random things and my room's a mess,
Like the thoughts and emotions scattered
In my heads... Darling, does it really matter?

I want to sing loud from the bottom of my heart
(but I know my housemates wouldn't like that):
being a mutant is not really bad!

Two heads are better than one -- proverbs are right!
Sometimes when I smile, others flee with fright.
But I know they won't resist a charming creature,
Because I'm a freaky fabulous double-feature!

Mutants may get spiky, others turn snotty.
Some grow extra heads, but that's really nothing
to worry about. Remember what you've got inside.
You can brighten everyone's day with that spark!

It's Hissi Day... EUREKA!
By Amitybelle

Among the Mystery, there lies a Lost City.
Not many call it home,
A journey of perils, ruthless dangers --
This is one you should not roam.

Along the way its cries are heard --
Is it sorrow; is it pain?
You won't turn back; you've come this far,
An escape would be in vain.

Here stands a room, what lies within?
The treasure, you are sure!
The door slams shut; oh, what a mistake --
What was that almighty roar?

Is it hungry, perhaps it is scared?
Not one has ever known.
Flee though the exit, don't look back!
Once more the Hissi is alone.

He lives content in this dreary tomb,
A ghostly glow to light his way.
The treasure hunters startle him --
He startles back; a ferocious display!
