Once Upon a Pound
Fragile soul, gentle heart, coddled, sweet.
"I'll always protect you, never fear."
My pet, my sweet, my dearest one.
Big eyes, upturned face, smile,
Love and laughter pouring out.
How could I not adore you, love?
I love you)
Blumaroo, Uni, regardless who,
I love you all the same, truly.
Not special, but beautiful to my eyes.
How could I ever want another?
You are all I need, my precious.
Ugly name, but I don't care.
I have an open door)
Perfect pet, anyway,
Doesn't matter colour, hair,
She's mine and that's all I need.
I do not envy that Draik or Krawk,
My Kau is everything to me.
Nothing to fix)
Pound door springs open, gasp,
Who knew this world? I did not.
What glories await, that I didn't see?
Crane, push, barrel inside.
It's far too late)
Oh, beautiful pet! Rarest avatar!
Stunning makeup, clothes so bright!
This pet is perfect, her name is real.
How could I not see this Draik superb?
Forget that ugly, ill-named Kau of mine,
Trade her in a heartbeat, for this new pet.
Worth less than a pen)
Hurry, rush, and get to those Boards,
Find the right pet for me; I'll trade any,
If only I will get one to look far more rich.
Wave a flag, Uni for trade, who has a
Royal Draik to give me?
The past we shelve)
Large and round! Large and round!
His knowledge is great and quite profound!
Aware of every trick in the book,
He'll give you such a dastardly look
If you dare to insult him with your silly quote,
Which you, of course, supposedly wrote.
In a castle, alone, he reads enthusiastically.
Hand on the book! Hand on the book!
Textbook, logbook, workbook, notebook...
He probably knows what you're going to say
Right before you say it, or on a future day.
His brain is hungry! Hungry for wisdom!
But don't be disheartened, fellow chum!
For there may be some things he doesn't know,
Somewhere deep and dark, in the shadows,
In the forgotten books of Neopia.
The Usul Suspects
Lumi knew they were coming for her,
As she dropped into a defensive crouch.
And soon no barrier would turn them away,
Least of all the soggy back of the couch.
Ten tiny Usuls with a gleam in their eyes
Were slowly creeping up toward her lair,
Little had poor Lumi the Nimmo known,
Babysitting would soon turn into warfare.
She was armed and ready with pistol in hand,
Still, she knew not to spring her trap yet,
Waiting until she saw the whites of their eyes,
Before setting off a well-aimed water jet.
Oh the giggling! The Usul babies scattered away,
Lumi glimpsed flashes of ribbons and pink,
As they took up positions all the way up the stairs,
She hardly knew what she should think.
Then one plucky baby, with a great battle cry,
Launched herself right out into the air,
Trusting the propeller on her cute beanie hat,
To let herself drift gently down past the stair.
It was the perfect angle. Lumi had no chance
To defend herself from these air attacks,
As more Usul babies fired their water pistols at her,
She went down. At least now she could relax.
A casualty of the great babysitting war,
Flat on her back in a puddle Lumi lay,
While ten delighted Usul babies ran up to her,
And thanked her so much for coming to play.
Take heed from this tale, if you know a baby Usul,
By their undeniable cuteness don't be charmed.
And should you ever accept a babysitting job,
Well, be sure that you show up well-armed.
Travelling down deep forest path,
With rocky pebbles strewn.
Breezes carry fallen leaves,
Whooshing, whispered tunes.
Rustle, rustle, sounds above,
I glance up in surprise.
Staring from the topmost leaves
Are blinking almond eyes.
Shadows flit from branch to branch,
Nimble, graceful forms.
Leaping figures, effortless,
In the treetops warm.
Glimpses of two pointed ears,
Waggling with glee.
Who are they, these agile pets,
That dance 'cross highest trees?
Answer to my pondering
Reveals itself at last.
Bushy tail pokes out of leaves,
With swiftness none surpass.
A single glance is enough, though,
Who are they? I know now.
Only Xweetoks have striped tails
That sweep across the boughs.
One of them jumps lower down
And comes into my sight.
Xweetok of sheer elegance,
Fur of gleaming white,
Looks at me, then carries on,
With game of swift pursue.
I watch, while wishing wistfully,
That I could join them too.
The Fountain Faerie Dreams...
Fair and silent, faerie sits,
Gaze downcast in repose.
Scintillating spectrum gleams,
Behind her, fountain flows.
Slender fingers softly drift,
To trace the crystal stream.
Ripples like a rainbow shift,
Then vanish, like a dream.
Kaleidoscope, coloured cascade,
Blessed by a mystic spell.
The magic of the fountain's flow,
A secret she guards well.
Idly, a smile drifts,
Across those features fair.
Brilliant tones from far below,
Reflect in golden hair.
The tresses tumble, streaming light,
Teased by the sunlit rays.
Lashes lower, chin doth tilt,
To meet reflection's gaze.
Guardian of Fountain's flow,
Where colour floods and streams.
Fingers tracing strands of sheen,
The Rainbow Faerie dreams.
