Sheriff Ellie's Hat
By Lily2b18

Indeed, nothing is
More ominous or scary
Than the sight of Sheriff Ellie's
Ten gallon hat. When you see that
Spotted Kau coming at you, badge
Shining and spurs spinning, all you
Have time to think is "Oh no no no.
For Pant Devil's sake, please, no!"
Because when you see that hat over
The horizon, that Kau pops you right
Outta Goldrun, out of the town in the
Valley of sand, out of the space between
Altador and the Lost Desert, and out from
The west side of the mountains. And no amount
Of high nooning will get you back.
When she sends you away, you're gone.
You're long gone, and the town is none
The worse for wear, for she wears the hat.

Goldrun
By Larkspurlane

Fictional though it may be
The place has seized on imaginations:
It glitters in the mysterious,
As-yet-unexplored places
Of Neopia's globe: a hint, a dream,
A ghost town shining whitely as a star
Hanging low on our planet's horizon --
A sweet presence, an impossibility, but there,
Lingering on the edges of Neopian Times tales,
Whisking through the Caption Contest,
And emerging, completely unexpectedly,
In the warm light of the Storyteller's campfire.

But what is fiction, and what is real
In a land such as ours, a Neopia where
The magic of a vast multiplicity of imaginations
Can make fancy into fact --
So we dream and dream,
Of dusty roads and tumbleweed,
Jingling spurs, wide-brimmed hats,
Of Sheriffs in danger, of Kauboy songs,
Of riding off into strange new sunsets
Whose heat makes the air undulate and quiver
Just as reality bends
With every new tale
Spun by restless imaginations.

Goldrun's Plight
By Herdygerdy

Through the sandy desert haze,
Adventuring Neopets find their ways,
To an ancient land of western fun,
Ellie summons them to Goldrun.

Her secret message holds the key,
To setting this troubled town free.
Seek her out at high noon,
And you'll be there soon.

There's more on offer than a Sheriff Kau,
From exotic Petpets to meaty chow.
Lasso games and a cactus farm,
Cork gun shoot-outs with no threat of harm.

But Goldrun's not all fun and action,
Sheriff Ellie warns of a vicious faction.
Outlaws, bandits, hired hands,
Plague the western desert lands.

Can you rid them from this town?
Make the citizens seem less down?
Rewards abound from their National Bank,
Not really of course -- it's an April Fools' prank!

A Saviour for Goldrun
By Sariphe

Swirling in the desert air,
The clouds of dust that gather there,
Where lies a town both quaint and fair,
A curse upon that place.

A Kau of spotted colour stands
Watching the drift of desert sands
Waiting for those healing hands,
A never-ending race.

The townsfolk cry in awful pain,
A dusty well deprived of rain,
The cobbles rife with dark red stain,
Goldrun's sickening case.

The sheriff turns her back and weeps,
As sickness in every house seeps
And darkness in her heart creeps,
A tear upon her face.

From there, the sheriff sees
Saviour as the sickness flees
That brought Goldrun to her knees,
A cure, a saving grace.

High Noon
By Iloenchen

'To whomever may find this,'
So reads the secret letter
From a faraway country
Where not everything is better.

Goldrun is what the town is called,
With the Lost Desert on one side
And Altador on the other one;
That's where the valley does hide.

A ball of dust flies through the streets
Carried away by a gust of wind;
In the dry prairie landscape
Flying sand can make you half-blind.

The clock on the wall shows high noon
When the saloon door is pushed open by
A spotted Kau, Ellie her name,
Who instantly attracts everyone's eye.

"Hello, Sheriff, how are you today?"
A Moehog with a ten-gallon hat asks.
"Do you think help will come now soon
To save us and make easier our tasks?"

The blue Aisha puts down her quill,
Reads through the poem one more time.
How will she finish Goldrun's story?
How will she continue with her rhyme?

A made-up place that fooled so many
Born in the mind of the NT writer,
On April Fools' this year it came
And made everyone's day a bit brighter.

The Goldrun Case
By Icesmith

The sands spewed fast over the misty decor,
Each break of day the same as before,
Yet something had changed,
The patterns no longer arranged,
As the sands released an almighty roar.

The town stirred fast as the sun broke through,
Yet the anxiety continued to pursue,
Each house filled with dread,
No one longer in bed,
As the curiosity just grew and grew.

"What is wrong?" The questions soared,
Each heart beat fast in a collective horde,
As they all rushed to see
The Sheriff agree,
With the anguish the poor town endured.

The town rushed to Ellie's retreat,
One after another, an almighty fleet,
Yet they opened the door,
And Sheriff Ellie was no more,
And a collection of gasps spread the street.

"But where could she be?" "Did she leave in fear?"
"Oh, maybe she ran, with an almighty tear!"
"But she wouldn't do that!"
"Look, she's taken her hat!"
"She has gone to get help over the wicked frontier!"

And what, may you ask, was wrong with this place?
What peril had brought sadness on each face?
Well, you may never know,
Unless you wish to go,
And solve the mysterious Goldrun case.

What Is This Goldrun?
By Precious_katuch14

What is this Goldrun?
A town of sand and hot sun
Somewhere there, but where?

What is this Goldrun?
Run by Kau sheriff Ellie
And her watchful eyes.

What is this Goldrun?
Saloons open day and night
Even for tourists.

What is this Goldrun?
Sheriff Ellie needs your help
She sends a message.

What is this Goldrun?
Why are we being summoned
To this western town?

What is this Goldrun?
Invaded by tumbleweeds
The reason for help?

What is this Goldrun?
Does Ellie need tumbleweed
Exterminators?

What is this Goldrun?
Somewhere in Neopia
It lurks, waits for us.

What is this Goldrun?
A legend like Jelly World?
An April Fools' prank?

What is this Goldrun?
Perhaps someday we will know
What this Goldrun is.

A Goldrun Encounter
By Rosabellk

A tumbleweed rolls past you
on a hot and arid day.
You crane your neck and look up
at the unforgiving sun.
But now you see a rugged town,
one much in disarray;
You stumble to it hurriedly:
your journey's just begun.
A spotted Kau comes, welcomes you,
and tells you who she is.
Her name is Ellie. She explains
she's sheriff of this town.
"Welcome to Goldrun. Hope that you
enjoy your stay," she says.
The light glints off her shiny badge
as she shows you around.
The buildings are all ramshackle,
dilapidated, old.
Their wooden frames start creaking
every time a wind picks up.
You see abandoned pickaxes,
each whispering of gold.
You ask your guide about them;
she replies with just a "Yup.
We used to have a mine 'round here,
but now it's done gone dry,
And now a crisis threatens
to destroy us Goldrun folk."
You quickly offer aid to her,
say you'll be her ally.
She thanks you kindly, hands you a --
wait, what? It was a joke?
