KACHEEK DAY SPECIAL

The Food Club Bookie's Secret
By Togepi_forever

Every day, I place my bets
With a grizzled old Kacheek.
His glasses old and out-of-date,
His beard not shaved for weeks.

So one day, as I stood in line,
A thought occurred to me --
He's always there, all hours a day --
Just that ONE bookie?!

It didn't seem quite possible --
Did he not sleep or eat?
How could he be there all day long,
Not moving from his seat?

There was no sense at all in this --
Was he robot or alien?
Or maybe there were really two --
Perhaps he had a twin!

I finally made it to the front,
And asked him to his face
"Do you ever do anything else,
Do you ever leave this place?"

He simply laughed, and then replied,
"May I take your bets, please?
A word of advice -- don't bet on Buck!
He greatly dislikes this cheese."

With a sigh of frustration
I did just as he said,
I hedged my bets with Fairfax,
Gooblah, Lucky, and Ned.

I swear one day I'll figure out
Just what his smile hides --
It may take me a year or more,
But I will always try!

I Seek
By Reggieman721

I played a game last night with my Kacheek.
He'd go hide somewhere secret; I would seek.
The fun went on until the sun went down.
But then my Neopet could not be found.

I looked for him beneath a leafy tree.
I searched amidst big crates of pottery.
I scoured each corner of a cluttered room,
But everywhere was silent as a tomb.

The game had been a way to mend our fight.
I'd given him a punishment last night.
And as I looked around with weary eyes,
I feared 'twas all a plan that he'd devised.

He'd still been mad; his laughs were all a game.
Now no reply came as I called his name.
My Neopet had run away for good.
Night turned into morning as I stood.

I called for him, and still this day I seek.
But I haven't found my runaway Kacheek.

The Legend of Eliv Thade
By Htamale

Within his castle in the Haunted Woods
Lived a Kacheek named Eliv Thade;
A glittering mind since childhood --
Puzzles and ciphers were his trade.

Challengers came with cryptograms,
Complex and bewildering beyond compare.
With ease Thade solved all their exams
And sent them way with an icy glare.

But change was coming for the master,
His servant provided a test at last.
The mystery wrapped in an enigma,
A labyrinthine question, subtle yet vast.

Thade fought with several theories,
Yet the puzzle remained unsolved.
Long days and nights in the library,
He struggled in vain for solution bold.

The challenge became a neurosis,
From frustration dementia took hold.
His servants all fled from his madness,
And the answer remained untold.

Deranged and confused Thade died alone,
But his soul could not find peace.
Through the castle his spectre roams,
Searching for answers and final release.

Thade haunts his lair from room to room,
On hapless pets the ghoul has preyed.
Twisted anagrams to seal their doom,
Who dares to dance with Eliv Thade?

Noble Sir Cheekalot
By Anjie

Hail to thee, oh brave Kacheek,
Ride yonder, noble knight.
Questing, saving maidens fair,
And turning wrongs to right.
Noble sir, upon your steed,
Neopia doth bow.
We'll pay you back for your brave deeds,
Yet don't know when or how.

Sir Cheekalot, the bravest knight,
Who gallops through the land.
Shield is steady on his arm,
And lance firm in his hand.
To those who seek to follow forth,
In noble knight's own way.
He'll gift them with a shield so strong,
To keep villains at bay.

Few Kacheeks as brave as he,
And none of noble line.
Mounted on his handsome steed,
His armour bright doth shine.
Defender of the innocent,
Protector of the weak.
Most noble knight with lance in paw,
Is one small brave Kacheek!

Brista Lightfeet
By Larkspurlane

Brista Lightfeet, the thieving Kacheek,
Haunts Neopia Central upon quick feet.
Hubert's Hotdogs does she cheat,
And the Uni Beauty Parlour,
The Neolodge, the Auction House,
The Food Shop, and the Bakery sweet.
Tiny fleet-footed thief, she can even beat
The Bank's security with confidence complete.
But do you know what she does with
Those prizes and that loot? With the hot dogs,
And the muffins, and the Neopoints and the sweets
She wins by thieving and deceit?

Every night at the midnight hour,
When none are awake save Edna in her tower,
Brista Lightfeet to the Money Tree's shades
Makes her silent and careful way,
And there she piles those wizened roots
With goods and swag bags and treats,
And thus ensures that even the poorest Neopet
Will always have enough to eat.

Squire Meekel's Lament
By Reanim8d

Once upon a time, years back,
When Meridell faced fierce attack,
When I heard King Skarl's call to arms,
The town rang with the war alarms,
But I stayed home, for fear of harm.

I'm not a knight (as you can see,
Nor ever did I want to be),
Instead, my skill's in playing games.
But I was told that knighthood came
With glory, honour, wealth, and fame.

So foolishly, I signed my fate,
Became a squire in mail-plate --
(I still can hear the swinging shriek
Of steel, and feel the heavy creak
Of rusty armour on Kacheek).

The first charge out, the arrows soared,
Swords clashed; and, blindly, plunging toward
The battlefront, I suddenly
Felt emptiness spread under me
And looked upward instinctively.

A terrifying sight above:
Two Skeiths in vise-like claw-grip of
My arms! -- and far below, as well,
I watched a shrinking Meridell.
('Twould have been better if I fell!)

And now I'm chained, and doomed to play
At Cellblock, fatt'ning till the day
When at this game I've grown too slow --
And though they'll say I'm free, I know
Skeith stew is where I'm bound to go...

Wind-Up Kacheek Toy
By _Razcalz_

In the chest, beyond the lid,
You'll find a special toy.
Figure of a green Kacheek,
Smiling with brightest joy.
One flat foot raised in mid-march,
Arms stretched sideways, straight.
Jutting gear in Kacheek's back,
Motionless -- but just you wait.

Toybox opens, hands reach in,
Kacheek brought out with laugh.
Just three turns of metal gear,
It'll walk for an hour's half.
Wind up, wind up, and again,
Energy stored within.
Set on floor is green Kacheek,
Now ready to begin!

Step by step, away it goes,
Consistent promenade.
Hue of green lit up by light,
Lone figure in parade.
Gently spinning is the gear,
Rewinding its command.
Round and round, Kacheek toy steps,
Exploring playroom's land.

Cheerful march of wind-up toy,
Alas, its time is o'er.
Approaching is the half-hour mark,
The toy slows more and more.
The gear has stopped, Kacheek is still,
No longer is it spurred.
Silent now, one foot raised high...
As though nothing had occurred.

Albert the Kacheek
By Stariell

Young Albert was a gardener,
He tended to herbs and plants,
Life was peaceful 'til he visited
The Haunted Woods by chance.

The dark, foreboding atmosphere,
Seemed to Albert the perfect test,
For any brave young gardener,
To find what plants grew there best.

Armed with seeds and compost bags,
And with his trusty silver shovel,
Albert headed for the Haunted Woods,
And walked right into terrible trouble.

He dug up an innocent swampy patch,
And threw in a handful of seeds,
Unaware this was already the home
Of a creature with many hungry needs.

Rising up from the muddy earth,
The Esophagor gave out a terrible roar,
And young Albert the Kacheek gardener
Was changed from how he was before.

The mutations that afflicted him then
Were nothing compared to the curse,
Though looking into his mirror that day,
Albert thought it could get no worse.

"FETCH MY BREAKFAST" comes the cry,
And Albert has to break out into a run,
He's been in those woods for years now,
Without a single glimpse of the sun.

Until he finds the correct food in time,
His days seem to be without end.
Albert, once a simple Kacheek gardener,
Is now the Esophagor's only friend.

Squire Meekel, Kacheek Captive
By Rosabellk

Squire Meekel volunteered
to fight for Meridell,
But now he sits in one of
Master Vex's prison cells
Where every day he's forced to play
a dull and boring game
Involving stones and making rows;
Cellblock is its name.
Meekel was the bravest knight.
(Well, not really, but still.)
He led (well, followed) a great charge
upon a rocky hill.
But long before he reached the top,
two angry Skeiths swooped down
And picked poor Squire Meekel up,
still squirming, from the ground.
They carried him into his cell;
since then, he's seen no light
And only has four prisoners
with whom to share his plight.

Clop, the Moehog, isn't really
one for conversation:
His "clop"s have lately taken on
an air of desperation.
For how can he communicate
when no one seems to get
Just what his hoofbeats mean:
they have not been translated yet.

The inmate in the cell adjoining
Meekel's habitat
Is one Barallus, a mysterious
and small Korbat.
All the others seem to know
this pet just isn't right;
His ramblings and maddened shrieks
keep Meekel up at night.

Then next we have the Yellow Knight,
a fighter like no other,
And yet it seems he's always
in the shadow of his brother.
Because, you see, the Green Knight
had completed all his missions,
While Brother Yellow failed at them,
and now he sits in prison.

Finally, there's Number Five,
a crazed, unstable Lupe
Who is, by popular consensus,
the kookiest of the group.
For all he does is rave all day
about a land of jelly.
But come now, that just can't exist!
His speculation's silly.

So these are Squire Meekel's friends:
a motley, rag-tag bunch;
And just to make things worse,
poor Squire Meekel has a hunch
That he's just being fattened up
to be somebody's lunch!
