USUL DAY SPECIAL
The Shadow Usul moves like water
Inky blackness sliding, sluicing
Flowing, flouting Nature's order
Scaling buildings and inducing
Frigid fingers of frightened tension
Drumming there on the napes of those
Oblivious to panic's wellspring
A sudden unease, a need to expose
What shift in shadow's dark penumbra
There! What shade within the shade?
Moving like the faintest current
Streaming within night's dim cascade
What evil prompts this darkling Usul
To hide within tenebrous gloom?
When nightfall masks her ebon movement
Nefarious motives one must assume
So lock your windows, bar the door
Ere you lay down 'neath sleep's gentle veil
For tonight, on nocturne's raven river,
The sinister Shadow Usul sails
Acrostically Yours on Usul Day
Under the pale winter
Sun's white blaze lie mountains
Upon which snow spreads its silvery carpet,
Light, gleaming, and -- for now -- untouched.
Snow so pristine is a gift, we
Know this, and remember it:
In these mountains magnificent and tranquil,
In this pure keen air, in the
New frost fresh-sprinkled and glittering,
Glows the spirit of Usuls who came before.
Snow has formed these well-known peaks into
Extraordinary shapes; great pines, sea-waves,
And white flames, and we glide over them in
Ski-flight, seeing, marvelling at the strength
Of the winter blast, and we soar like the
Northern wind, and meet the sky.
The Zombie Usul
Usuls, they're like a kaleidoscope --
Blue, Christmas, Desert, and rainbow.
All beautiful, they come in different colours.
One of them is different, though.
The little Zombie Usul sits in her house,
Not daring to go outside
For fear of other pets mocking her
Or taking down her pride.
Pale white skin, moth-eaten clothes,
The pupils small like tiny dots.
The Zombie Usul is not beautiful,
Her skin is covered by spots.
When she goes outside in the town,
Others turn and stare at her.
Zombie pets are not welcome --
Beautiful colours are what is preferred.
A little boy cries out in fear
At the strange Usul that he sees.
The Zombie girl looks down in shame --
Stop staring at her, please.
Someone once told her to get repainted,
But the Zombie refused to hear the words.
For her having to change her colour
Is like taking away the wings of birds.
She would rather stay at home all day
Or endure the malicious stares
Than give up who she really is,
Even if it means crying tears.
Usuls on the Snow
Usuls gather on the peak,
Where mountain winds do swirl.
Snowy summit filled with crowds,
Down, skiers soon will hurl.
Usuls fiddle nervously,
Awaiting count of three.
Cheering fans along the track,
As far as eye can see.
And they're off, the Usuls spry,
Racers in the snow.
Striving to be first to reach
The finish line below.
Will it be the Usul grey,
Or pretty faerie one?
Hard to tell, they're each so swift,
But we'll see; it's just begun!
Just as skiers reach turning point,
White Usul stumbles, falls.
No one thought of what could come
From mistake so small.
Flailing Usul crashes (ouch),
Onto skiers' backs --
Who, in turn, misstep...
Sheer chaos on the track.
Toppling Usuls plummet still,
As spectators fret.
Few did spot, at race's end,
Something one can't forget:
The result of careless skiers
Who tumble at full speed.
Squealing snow piles at hill's foot...
A curious sight, indeed!
A Thought for the Shadow Usul
Whisper, whisper, onyx form,
Entangled in the night.
Born of darkness, shadow beast,
A soul consumed by spite.
Does the plunder, snatched away,
Appease a soul so bleak?
Dragged into an inky realm,
As through the night, you sneak.
Satisfaction, is it gained?
You take things not your own.
Do these treasures bring you joy,
In shadow realm, alone?
Do you long to walk the path,
Beyond the veiled night?
Cast away an evil heart,
And step to day's own light?
Is redemption to be found?
Oh Usul, cast in black.
You've wandered in the wicked zone,
It's too late to come back.
Fear instilled and items snatched,
Your life thus shall unfold.
For all those treasures, it remains,
The shadows are so cold.
