Story Seven Hundred Forty Eight Ends Friday, September 23

December was fast approaching and Misty couldn't be happier. She couldn't wait to go to Terror Mountain everyday to collect and item from the advent calendar. She waited all year for her daily trips to terror mountain. Misty was happy it was almost time to begin her trips, but then something terrible happened.

When Misty was reading the Neopian Times one morning she saw an article that made her heart drop. The article was titled "Goodbye Terror Mountain."

Before Misty could read the article her little sister Sally came running into the room. Sally looked very upset, and everyone knows the saddest sight to see is a uni who is upset.

"Terror Mountain has disappeared!" cried Sally...

...Terror Mountain disappeared? That was preposterous. There was no way a Neopian land, especially one as big as Terror Mountain, could just disappear. Sally tended to believe anything she read and this article could have been one fake tabloid like how last week it said that Neopia Central would turn black and white if the Rainbow Pool ran out.

Misty didn't believe this. "Sally, Terror Mountain didn't disappear," she informed.

"But the Neopian Times said so!" Sally argued.

"There's no way a Neopian land can just disappear."

"It could have been eaten up by a Krawken! Lady Frostbite could have stolen it! It could have melted off the planet!"

Misty was getting frustrated fast. "Sally, listen to yourself. Do any of those possibilities sound feasible?"

"Yes, Misty, they sound fees-a-bull." Sally pouted and crossed her arms. The little Usul was upset that her sister didn't like her explanations. "It doesn't matter. Terror Mountain is gone!"

"It is not gone," Misty muttered. The pink Usul got up. "Do you want to go to Terror Mountain to prove to you it hasn't disappeared?"

Sally nodded. She was looking forward to proving her sister wrong, that Terror Mountain has disappeared...

As the pair of sisters walked through Neopia Central headed north, all they could hear were the crowds of Neopets chattering about how Terror Mountain had seemingly disappeared.

"See Misty? Everyone in town is talking about Terror Mountain going missing!" Sally pouted.

"Sally, please. People these days will believe everything they read and the Neopian Times writers like to take advantage of that. Once people actually go up to Terror Mountain and see it's perfectly fine, this whole debacle will blow over." Misty scoffed.

"Actually, ma'am..." a Cybunny walked up to the two. "I'm afraid it's all true. Terror Mountain truly is gone."

"See?" Sally cried. "It's gone missing!"

Misty paid her no heed. "Well then. Explain to me how an entire land can go missing overnight?" she huffed, crossing her arms.

The Cybunny frowned. "They say Altador was hidden in time with to a spell until they decided it was time to come out of hiding. Maybe something had happened on the mountain that forced the Snow Faerie to hide it?"

Could something like that actually happen? Could there be something so terrifying that an entire land needed to be sealed away? Misty thought for a moment.

She shook her head as she quickly dismissed that idea. There's no way. It was all just baseless speculation.

"I need to see this for myself." Misty stated. "I find this hard to believe." She walked past the Cybunny with Sally in tow, determined to get to the mountains.

The Cybunny looked on sorrowfully as the pair of sisters disappeared beyond the horizon.

The sisters walked to the Neopia Central Harbour and quickly hopped on the next ferry to Terror Mountain. The ferry was usually packed, but today the two usuls were the only ones on board. Misty furrowed her brows. This was getting weirder by the minute.

Sally walked up to the front of the ferry, where a green uni was steering the wheel. She tugged gingerly at the captain's shirt and asked, "Mr Captain, could it be true? Is Terror Mountain really gone?"

The uni took his eyes off the wheel and looked down sadly at the young usul. He gave a single nod. "I'm afraid so, my child... Why, if I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't have believed it either!"

At this, Misty's interests were piqued.

"What did you see?" the sisters asked in unison.

"It all happened this morning! I was on my way to Happy Valley to get a nice, warm coffee, and there she was! The snow faerie! She was standing at the foot of Terror Mountain, holding a staff up in the air. She was mumbling to herself like she was saying a spell. All of a sudden, the winds started howling and the mountain was shrouded by heavy snowfall. And when it stopped, Terror Mountain was gone!"

Sally gasped. "You mean, Terror Mountain just disappeared? Where'd it go?"

"Well, if I knew, I'd be a Neomillionaire!" Chuckled the captain.

Misty crossed her arms. The Snow Faerie must've had good reason to make Terror Mountain disappear. But what could've it been?

"Well, kids, this is your stop. Good luck and save travels!" The Captain said, waving to the girls as they exited.

"Misty, where do we go from here?" Questioned Sally.

"Well, Sally, as you can see there's nothing here." Misty muttered, gesturing for her sister to turn around. The sign on the pier said "Terror Mountain Stop," but there was nothing there, just ice.

Sally cried, "What in Fyora's name?"

The two girls stared shockingly at the scene. There was absolutely nothing there - no Snow Faerie's castle, no Ice Caves, no Winter Petpets Shop. The sisters sauntered forward, in disbelief.

"Misty, what's this?" Sally inquired, pointing to the ground at the base of the pier.

Misty walked over, reading an engraving in the ice. "For the sake of all Neopia, don't come looking for Terror Mountain or me, Jhudora!"

She stumbled backwords, "Sally, this was obviously written by the Snow Faerie, but what could it possibly mean?"

"This is subtle," Sally said and rolled her eyes. Suddenly, an icy air spread across the pier. The girls both shivered.

"Whatever this is, I don't think it's good," the younger girl said. "Let's just go home and wait for the Mountain to come back!"

Sally tugged at Misty's sleeve, but the older girl shook her paw off. Sally's suggestions also seemed to fall on deaf ears, as she found her older sister walking to the edge of the pier, into a dim mist.

She ran after her sister. 'No way are we going further into this,' she thought.

"Misty! Wait for me!"

Misty did not turn around though and continued to walk gingerly towards the mist. What in Neopia is happening? As Sally moved closer, she noticed dark purple flecks of light - or is it electricity? - move inside the mist. The dark lights did not crackle, but they hummed in low tones. Sally listened. She could almost hear a word muttered several times: "where." What the?

"Misty! Stop!"

Her older sister never heard the warning - and the desperate plea. She walked into the mist without any hesitation. Fortunately, Sally held on to her sister's coat and caught her. Unfortunately, she too entered the place the mist contained.

Sally felt her body pass through several layers of silence and darkness. She felt the dark flecks of light guide her to passage.

After a few seconds, Sally felt her hand on Misty's coat again and realized her sister had stopped walking. She was also holding her breath throughout the passage and exhaled largely in relief. She was shaking in anger.

"I-I thought we were going to die! Why weren't you listening to me?" she said.

"Shh-"

"WHAT?"

Misty held her hand over Sally's mouth and pointed to a glowing green opening in the distance. Sally realized they were on the dead end of a cold, hollow tunnel-like cave, and there was only one way out. Where are they?

Misty gestured for her sister to move. They made their way towards the opening.

"This is crazy," thought Sally. "I don't want to go into this glowing tunnel, I don't know where to leads."

Sally was interrupted from her thoughts by noise. Not bad noise, just general daily life noise. She could not believe what she saw. In front of her was The Wintery Petpet shop, The Ice Cream Cart and The Slushie Shop. It looked just like Happy Valley, but how was this possible?

"Hi girls," Said a voice. "I'm Mr. Chipper and I run The Ice Cream Cart, would you like an ice cream?"

"Uh, no thank you." Said Sally looking around.

This was so strange. Everything seemed normal, people were going about their daily lives like nothing had happened. Maybe they didn't know that Terror Mountain was not like it should be or maybe they were all under a spell...

..."Outsiders!" came a voice seemingly from everywhere, causing Sally and Misty to dart their heads every which way.

At last, and at the same time, they saw a familiar faerie float toward them. "Taelia!" said Misty, pointing at the hovering figure.

"Who sent you two? Jhudora?"

"No," Sally quickly replied.

"Hmm... you don't seem disingenuous." She smiled at the pair. "Looks like Jhudora hasn't been able to pierce my spell yet. Welcome to Terror Mountain."

"What's going on, snow faerie? Why did you hide the mountain?" Sally asked.

Taelia cocked her head to one side, almost giving a "really?" look but her ever-present smile masked it. "Er... because the entire mountain was recently threatened by Jhudora and many of her dark faerie sisters. Word in the caves was that many of the dark faeries were plotting this year to bewitch the Advent Calendar prizes when Neopians weren't looking!"

Misty and Sally gave Taelia the "really?" look now.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" The Snow Faerie frowned. "They're going to make their move at noon!"

"Er... really?" was all Sally could say.

"Look, Taelia," Misty started, "I know this threat sounds serious, and under different circumstances it certainly would be." The Usul paused, then slowly inquired. "Have you ever been to an Advent Calendar before?"

The Snow Faerie looked visibly taken aback. "Well, I've been featured in a few of them, but I've always been too busy protecting Terror Mountain, rather than collecting knick-knacks I'll throw into my Safety Deposit Box and never look at again."

"You sure you haven't ever went to the Advent Calendar?" Sally said with a giggle.

Taelia smiled wanly. "Look, kids, you found Terror Mountain. Good for you. But why would I unhide it after threats that could possibly harm every goer to the Advent Calendar in one week's time?"

"Trust us," Misty said as she turned her back on the faerie. Sally did likewise.

The two left the tunnel, leaving the Snow Faerie to just watch on.

***

On the first day of the month of celebrating, the bells tolled and the newspapers read, "TERROR MOUNTAIN REOPENED IN TIME FOR THE ADVENT CALENDAR!"

"Misty Misty Misty," Sally exclaimed, bursting through her sister's bedroom door. "Let's go let's go let's gooooo!"

Misty smiled. She took her sister's hand and made their way to the Ferry, and to the Mountain. They stepped off the ship to behold the towering icy slope.

Misty grinned. It was a glorious sight. It felt so... right.

They got into the massive lineup and waited... and waited...

And then Taelia appeared as the sun started to set. "You two!" she said, looking only somewhat frenzied. "It's almost five and still no sign of the dark faeries! How did you know the attack wasn't going to happen?"

"Simple," Misty commented. "You'd said the faeries were going 'to bewitch the Advent Calendar prizes when Neopians weren't looking'. Well, Neopians are ALWAYS looking at and after the Advent Calendar during the month of celebrating. I mean, this steady lineup has been here for hours!"

Taelia frowned... then smiled. "Why you little Usuls... you two are right. I wish I would have seen that earlier." And with that she fluttered off.

Sally gave her big sister a high-five as they approached the building and received their super awesome amazing gifts.
