Never cross the Lost Desert without taking any water was the last sign
that Oafish the Kau remembered reading before he realised that he only brought some chocolate and
one can of olives. "Oh yeah, I forgot water. That wasn't too smart of me," he said, staring
up into the hot sun. The sun, and lack of water, made him feel very dizzy and a bit faint... he started
to see green spots that resembled tiny Kikos. "Staring into the blistering, bright sun wasn't very
smart of me either," he said, falling into the sand. "I-I... think I'll... j-j-just take a-a-a
little nap... r-right here..."

...With his cheek pressed into the grainy sand, he slipped into a feverish dream. Oafish dreamed
he was lying on a beach on a deserted island. The cool ocean water washed up onto the shore and
lapped at his hooves. Dazedly, Oafish scrambled to his feet. Once his head had cleared, he stared
toward the horizon--there was water as far as the eye could see. Excitedly, Oafish sprinted towards
the water's edge. He had leapt into the ocean with a loud SPLASH! when a sobering thought entered
his mind, "Kaus can't swim!" Oafish floundered about in the water, which was actually sand, gasping
for air. Thankfully, or perhaps not, someone or something chose that moment to kick sand into the
slumbering face of Oafish. Oafish spit out a mouthful of sand and looked around, only to see...

...a Lost Desert Koi jump into the sand! "Wait," he said to himself, "there is no such thing as a Lost
Desert Koi yet!" Oafish got to his feet and walked over to the spot that the Koi had leapt into.
Curious, he took a hoof-ful of sand and let it pour back to the ground. It sunk right through
the spot the Koi disappeared in, making a hole. It reminded him of the sand in a hourglass. Suspiciously,
he looked around, but there was nothing but desert around surrounding him. Simply because he was hot,
thirsty and curious, he decided to follow the Koi into the sand. Oafish nervously stuck one of his hooves
into the hole and...

...he began to sink, deep into the grainy sand. He could see his surroundings swell and could feel himself
descending deeper and deeper into the sand. Oh my, thought Oafish, What's happening? With that,
Oafish fainted (again)....
Oafish woke up to find himself sitting in a pile of grainy sand. Curious, he started studying his
surroundings, and found that he was in a new land called Oasis the Paradise. He could see mountains
surrounding the area, and crystal clear waters gushing down the mountains into the lake. In the middle
of the lake there was a grand fountain, which reminded him of the famous Rainbow Fountain. At the edge of
the lake, many Lost Desert pets could be seen sipping the water. They all looked so joyful and healthy and
very young...

...so Oafish curiously began to trot over, and raised his eyebrows. "What are you drinking? I'm pretty
thirsty. See," Oafish showed the beautiful young Cybunny his melted chocolate and empty can of olives.
"I forgot to pack a lot of stuff, like water. I'm not a very smart Kau."
The Cybunny delicately raised her left eyebrow, and answered just-as-delicately, "This is the Oasis of
Eternal Youth, and you are in the land of Oasis the Paradise. Now, be gone before the King arrives." Oafish
fainted (we think it's from the sun, but legend has it that the Cybunny was so beautiful that Oafish just
couldn't stand it)...
When Oafish awoke from his siesta, he saw the other Neopets (about 15 of them total) around him, pointing
and giggling at his appearance. Then Oafish purposely slapped himself just to see if he was having one of
his "faerie" dreams again. "Ouch, I shouldn't have slapped myself." Suddenly, the light giggling of the
observing Lost Desert Neopets ceased, and the ground shook slightly. Behind Oafish was...

...water spiraling up towards the sky! Oafish slowly turned to look, the water slowly spiraled back down to
reveal a mighty Kougra. He was a Lost Desert Kougra, but Oafish had never seen one like him. The Kougra had
a gold coat with jet-black stripes. He had a Lost Desert king's crown on his head, and soft white fur covered
his chest. Golden and blue bracelets were on both front legs, and a single golden ring encircled his tail,
which was swishing. Three necklaces were on his neck, and a bird of some kind was tattooed on his flank. He
raised his head confidently and stared at Oafish coolly. The Neopets bowed immediately, their brilliant
coats quivering. The Kougra twitched an ear with a little gold hoop earring on it. "Who is this... this Kau?"
he demanded haughtily, his voice booming out without effort. Oafish thought this Kougra was grand, but had a
bad feeling about him. Very bad.
"I-I'm Oafish," he stammered.
The Kougra arched a brow and sneered. "From the so-called Neopia?" he mocked. Oafish nodded. "Ha!
My dear queen, come see this!" the Kougra boomed.
Queen? That must mean he's the king! Oafish thought, panicked to the max. A little spiral of water
appeared, and a normal Desert Shoyru stepped out, accompanying a normally painted Desert Kougra. But the
Desert Kougra had an elegancy and majestic air about her that no one but her owned. But beneath all that
brilliance, Oafish could sense kindness...

...The king laughed and laughed. "Crossing the Lost Desert without water? How foolish of you!"
The queen did not say anything, but her big bright eyes were dancing.
Oafish just stared. The king shouted, "Guards! Take the Kau away until I can figure out what to
do with him."
Out of nowhere guards appeared and took hold of Oafish's horns. "We must take you to the detention
room," one of the guards laughed wickedly.
Oafish gulped. The detention room? That didn't sound too good...

...Oafish was led down a dark passageway, lit only with torches. Down, down, down, they went, into
the very heart of the lost desert. "First," the guard on Oafish's right explained, "We will test
your story using the stone of truth, If you are found to be lying, then you will receive the most
horrible torture ever to be known."
Upon hearing this, Oafish said, "WAIT! Don't I at least get a trial?"
"A trial?" The second guard laughed. "You'll get a trial all right, we've been waiting to TRY our new
torture device!" After the guard had said this, somebody entered the room. The poor, frightened Kau looked
up into the kind face of the queen...

..."Hello," the young queen said. Her voice was so calming after the stressful afternoon Oafish had
just experienced. She gave him a drink of water.
"H-H-Hi," Oafish said childishly, lapping the water up. Just looking at her gave him so many
Lenny bumps. Her eyes were a bright blue and seemed to be shining right through him.
"I've never seen a kind like you before... and you say your from... Neo-pia?" she asked.
"Yes, I am, and I'm afraid I'll never get back there now," Oafish replied.
Footsteps were heard from behind, a guard perhaps. The queen quickly stepped aside into the
shadows to where no one could see her. When the footsteps muffled away she came back out.
"I want to go to this Neopia," she said, "Will you take me there?"
"But, h-how? You're a powerful queen and I'm just a dumb Kau stuck here."
"But think about what you just said, I'm a queen, and I am powerful," she giggled slightly.
Just then, a bright light appeared in the chamber and...

...Oafish needed to squint to see what was going on. The light faded and he blinked a few times to
get his eyes back in focus. He saw the queen of the Oasis of Paradise run into Usukiland. "Hey, wait
for me!" Galloping fast behind her, he saw her closer... she was starry-eyed and her mouth was hanging
wide open at a Desert Usuki. He graciously offered to buy it for her, but she shook her head and politely
refused.
After a long while of eating Faerie Food and doughnuts, the queen smiled and said, "I've had so much
fun in Neopia. I hope I can come back someday. Here is a token of my appreciation," she smiled and took
off her crown. She set it gently on Oafish's head and disappeared before he could say anything. She'll
be back, he thought, I mean she did forget her crown...

..."Look! It's the king of the Lost Desert!" a Cybunny cried.
"What are you doing in Neopia?" a Kacheek asked.
"W-w-what? I-I-I-I'm n-n-n-not t-t-t-the k-k-k-king," Oafish stammered.
"Nonsense! Nonsense! You should go see the Faerie Queen!" a Quiggle said.
"Yes, yes! Go!" a Chia said excitedly.
"B-b-b-but, I'm not the king!" Oafish said, but the crowd was already pushing him toward Faerieland.
Then he fainted. What an oaf!
