Story One Hundred and Eighty-Three Ends June 18th
"Well, Breg, this should be it," grunted a blue Grundo as he
hoisted a large wooden crate off the ground and onto a conveyor belt. Another Grundo stood
to the side, checking things off on his clipboard.
"Y'know, we get more and more shipments of these things every day."
Greton nodded in agreement. "Neopets just don't have respect for the common item anymore. All
they want is rare, rare, rare!" The blue Grundo lifted one more crate onto the conveyor belt
before turning towards his friend. "It doesn't help that we've got another forty crates
coming in tomorrow morning."
"Well, another day, another Neopoint," laughed Breg, flipping a switch on the wall. The whir
of the conveyor belt slowly began to quiet, and the warehouse became dim and silent. As the
two Grundos made their way towards the door, a small rumbling took Breg by surprise.
"Hey Greton... what's that noise?"
The two Neopets turned around and noticed one of the crates was shaking violently. The blue
and green Grundos looked at each other worriedly, and walked towards the crate. Greton picked
a crowbar off the ground, and looked at Breg for assurance. "Do you think we should open it?"
Breg eyed the mysterious crate, obviously apprehensive. "Well, I guess we should check to make
sure it's nothing dangerous... however, it's probably just a wind-up toy or something." the Grundo
said, laughing uneasily.
"Well," Greton said, "Help me pry this open, then." The two Grundos fitted the crowbar under
the lid of the crate and pushed down. Slowly, the nails pried loose, and the Grundos lifted the
lid off, letting it drop onto the cold, metal floor. Both Grundos grew nervous in the dim light
of the warehouse, as they peered into the dark crate...

..."Goodness!" Greton exclaimed in astonishment.
"What... what is it?" Breg asked.
The sight that met their eyes *was* worthy of surprise. Within the crate was a desperate
yellow Buzz with his mouth stuffed with three jellies. Sturdy twine rope bound his arms,
legs, and wings.
"Hmmph mmmph! Hmmph mmmph!"
Looking at Breg, Greton instructed. "Okay, you take his legs, and I'll take his head."
"Huh?!" Breg, the green Grundo, was still unable to get over the surprise of finding a
yellow Buzz inside the crate.
Exasperated, Greton tugged on his arm to get his attention. "We have to get him out of the
crate, you ninny!"
"Oh..."
Working together, Breg and Greton managed to extricate the Buzz from the small crate.
"What happened to you?" Breg asked, as Greton removed the Buzz's restraints and took away
the jellies stuffed in his mouth.
"Trouble," the yellow Buzz gasped, his throat was raspy and dry. "at the Jelly Processing
Plant... I'm Buzz Foreman... the Mootix, oh the Mootix!"
"Slow down," Greton advised, handing the Buzz a drink of water. "What do you mean?"
"Well...

..."I was just doing my job, sorting all of the jellies, when I heard a low creak. I
looked around the jelly plant, but found nothing. That's when I heard it again... the sound of
pattering little feet. I went back to the sorter, and then I saw them! Thousands upon
thousands of Mootix."
"What did they do?" Breg asked.
"Everything they could to overtake the factory. All the Mootix started to eat the jelly --
some even fell in the vat and got stuck! I tried to run, but they were
everywhere! They covered the floor, and the walls... they didn't stop until they'd devoured
every jelly cone!
It was horrible. I couldn't watch! I tried to escape, but they attached to my legs, and swarmed
me. I tried to run, fly, even wiggle, but nothing worked -- then I saw it... a
gigantic warrior Mootix, leading them."
Breg and Greton watched the Buzz, nervously. The story was exciting, but quite serious
just the same if it were true... their warehouse did have quite a store of jelly, and if
Mootix were going after all of it...
The Buzz didn't notice the Grundos becoming nervous. Looking around, he continued.
"The giant Mootix used its stubby little arms to pick me up and shove me into the crate
you just found me in. I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't found me.
Thank you."
"Don't mention it," Greton said, "We were happy to help. Weren't we, Breg?" The Grundo
turned when his friend failed to respond. "Breg?"
The other Grundo, however, was not listening. He gazed straight into the darkness,
a rather nervous look on his face....

..."Hello?" Greton called, waving his hands. "Neopia to Breg! What's up with you, man?"
"Greton," Breg said, "you do know what I'm looking at, don't you?"
"Sure I do," replied Greton, "And I don't know why you're so entranced by it. It's just where we keep the..."
"...Jelly."
Greton and Breg looked at each other fearfully, exchanging terrified looks with one another. Greton turned around and
looked for the yellow Buzz, only to find him staring at the back wall of the warehouse.
"Erm... you there!" Greton called, "Buzz!"
No answer.
"Hey! Buddy!" Breg cried. "Answer us!"
However, the yellow Buzz still did not reply. His attention was occupied by the tiny figures that scuttled around the back of the
factory -- or, for lack of a better term, the swarm of Mootix that slowly emerged from the shadows a second later...

...Peering even further into the darkness, a bigger outline began to materialise -- the
giant warrior Mootix, their leader. Even worse, the eyes that shone out were focused directly
on Breg! The Grundo realised he was making too much noise, so he closed his mouth with a snap.
It was too late, though; the large shape moved forward, intent on Breg. The giant Mootix gestured
and the swarming mass parted, with half of the small figures surging forward beside their leader.
"Run!! Let's get out of here!!" Bregg screamed, giving up on silence as a way of staying hidden.
With that Buzz and Greton suddenly jolted into motion. All three spun around simultaneously
and skittered away fast, the patter of Mootix feet sounding ominously closer and closer.
They reached the back of the warehouse and came to an abrupt halt. There was nowhere to go...
it was a solid metal wall! Breg then noticed the conveyor belt that climbed the wall,
and quickly hit the start button.
"Get on!" he shouted.
Breg jumped on himself, immediately followed by a frightened blue Grundo and Buzz. Running
up the conveyor, Breg pushed a crate off so that he could get past.
The crate smashed open below them, and two-in-one shampoo flooded the floor. The reaction
from the Mootix was startling! They panicked, moving back from the spilled shampoo while
squealing. Buzz heard the noises and looked down.
"Hey, look!" he shouted while pointing.
Breg and Greton stopped climbing to look down as well.
"They don't like shampoo!" Greton gasped.
"Hey, I have an idea!" Breg exclaimed excitedly, "Wasn't that crate part of a shipment of
two-in-one shampoo that came in just yesterday?"
"Yeah, but..." Greton said, looking back past the giant Mootix skirting the mess below,
which made him feel a bit queasy, "Most of it is on the other side of the warehouse,
where we keep..."
The Buzz piped up, "Let me guess. The jelly?"
The two Grundos groaned as they nodded in unison...

...The Buzz closed its eyes, noticeably frustrated. "So, should we make a run for it?"
"No way! If they destroy the warehouse, we'll be out of jobs! Besides, those Mootix
would be all over us before we even made it near the exit. What we need is a plan..." Greton
replied quickly. He knew they were running out of time.
"No, we need a diversion!" Breg said, keeping a weary eye on the Mootix still struggling
in the shampoo below. "I know just what to do. If we can get the Mootix to believe there
is another shipment on the opposite side of the warehouse, we might be able to divert
enough of them to slip past and get the shampoo." Greton nodded in agreement.
"I've got it! Buzz, why don't you fly across screaming, 'Save the jelly! Save the jelly!
Don't let them get to the other shipment!' or something like that? If the Mootix heard you,
they just might follow you!" The Buzz groaned and mumbled something that sounded like,
"Why do I have to do the dirty work?" However, he knew it was the only way.
"Okay... are you ready? You'd better get going!" Breg cried as he saw that the Mootix were
recovering. Immediately, the Buzz took off shouting as loud as he could across the warehouse.
"I think it's actually working!" Greton said. "Come on! We'd better go find that shipment."...

...As the Mootix followed Buzz into the darkness, the two Grundos jumped down from their
perches.
"Hurry!" whispered Breg.
They made their way through the labyrinth of crates and conveyor belts to the far end of the
warehouse where the grooming items and jelly were kept.
"There!" cried Breg, pointing to a stack of crates in the corner. They climbed up the crates
and dumped the contents of the top one on the floor. Bars of soap and shower gels emptied
onto the cold steel floor. One after another, the Grundos tipped over crates. Finally, a
crate crashed to the floor, revealing an entire shipment of shampoos.
"Quickly," said Greton. "Grab as many as you can!"
They started to gather the shampoo into their arms, when they heard a yell from Buzz foreman.
"Guys! Hurry up! They've figured it out!"
Without hesitation, the two Grundos jumped on top of the boxes and turned towards their
enemies with their newly-found weapons. The wave of Mootix came crawling towards them.
Breg opened a bottle of two-in-one and squirted it at the swarm. A piercing squeal went
up from the bugs, and they began to slip and slide, and become trapped in the thick shampoo.
Greton opened another bottle, and soon the Grundos were immobilizing Mootix a mile a minute.
Finally, when they were down to their last two bottles of shampoo, the waves died down. The
Grundos looked at each other victoriously, until they heard a loud
THU-THU-THUMP!!
THU-THU-THUMP!!
THU-THU-THUMP!!
They turned to see the giant Mootix leader crawling towards them. They fired their shampoo,
but it didn't seem to phase the giant bug. Panicked, they used up the last of their arsenal
in vain. As they dropped the empty bottles and began to back away, the giant Mootix advanced
on them...

...Breg screamed as the giant Mootix clashed one of his powerful hind legs against a
crate, sending sharp woodchips flying through the air.
Suddenly, Greton had an idea. If they could lure the Mootix into a trap, using the jelly
as bait, then all the Mootix would then be immobilised, and they could contact someone for help.
Greton looked over to the crates against the wall. The problem was getting to the jelly...
he'd have to think fast.
Without warning, the Mootix lunged at the two Grundos, his muscular legs kicking and ready
for attack.
"Greton! He's going to get us, we're done for!" Breg cried.
Greton however, still had his hopes up. "You, Buzz!" he cried, "Get as many handfuls of jelly from
that crate! Lure the Mootix away from us! We'll try to capture him in that cargo net." he
said, pointing to a net hanging nearby.
The Buzz followed his orders, and raced to one of the jelly-filled crates, and began
attempting to pry open the top. Greton was filled with worry; if the plan failed, Breg
was right... they would be done for...

...The two Grundos rushed towards the net, with the Mootix hot on their heels.
"HURRY UP WITH THAT CRATE!" Breg yelled.
The Buzz was still struggling with the lid, but seeing the Mootix closing in on the Grundos,
he decided another course of action was best. He then flew behind the crate and pushed with
all his might. The crate creaked and groaned, and then tipped over. Piles of jelly tumbled
out, and the Mootix warrior stopped short. As it began to devour the jelly, Greton and Breg
reached the net and yanked on the end. The net came swooshing down on them, and they hurriedly
gathered it up.
They climbed to the top of a tall stack of crates situated above the Mootix, and readied the
net.
"Hey, we need your help!" Greton cried, to the Buzz. "Grab the other end of the net, and fly
over there!" he gestured to another stack of crates on the other side of the Mootix. The
Buzz seized the net and flew to the crates, landing on top of the precariously stacked pile.
"Ready?" Greton asked. "One, two, THREE!"
They launched the net down onto the Mootix, aiming perfectly. The Mootix screeched,
thrashing about like a vernax in a spyder web, becoming more entangled with every move.
The Grundos scrambled down from the crates and raced for the door, with the Buzz zooming
above them. However, as they neared the door they skidded to a halt. Hundreds of Mootix
were blocking their escape route!
"What do we do now Greton?" Breg asked, in a frightened voice. However, he was cut off by
and exclamation from the Buzz.
"Look at the Mootix!"
Indeed, he had reason for surprise. The Mootix were scuttling away squealing, and those
that could not escape were cowering in corners. Without their fearless leader to spur them
on, they were once again weak little bugs, too frightened to regroup and attack. The three
heroes rushed past the Mootix, and out the door, to seek help.
* * * * *
Pest control arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, and rounded up the scattered
Mootix. Stock was taken of the damaged goods, and the losses were surprisingly low.
Greton, Breg and the Buzz foreman were hailed as heroes for saving Neopias supply of jelly.
The Mootix were trained and sold as petpetpets, and even the Mootix warrior got a job at the
Battledome. Things eventually settled down and returned to normal, although the Buzz foreman
continues to keep ears open for the pattering of tiny feet, and the jelly stores have better
security. Thus ended the 'Great Jelly Caper'. However, the tale of the shampoo-eating
Cooties is a whole different story!
